Hi! I’m Sandra Kruppstadt. I grew up in West Bend, Wisconsin.
As a child, I loved to draw and did many different arts and craft activities. In high school, I started sewing on my mother’s treadle machine. When I was in college, my dad bought me a new modern machine with many decorative stitches. I was thrilled beyond words!
Around 1960, I moved to Racine to teach at Racine Unified School District. In 1962, I got married and, through the years, had 3 children. I sewed clothes for myself, shirts for my husband and clothes for my children. There was no need to continue sewing for my children when they were older and clothes were less expensive.
I was not ready to give up sewing. I had heard about quilting, but I was not ready to sew large bed quilts. One day while shopping, I found this Miniature Quilts magazine. This was my ticket to art quilts. I found a lot of information on the computer. Today, YouTube is a good source.
In 2006, I retired from teaching and have been sewing art quilts since then. Many years ago, I took a paper piecing class at Sew ‘n Save and fell in love with the technique. It was so much fun!
Through the years I have won many ribbons showing my quilts around Wisconsin. My inspiration for quilts comes from nature and my flower gardens. I love color, so many of my quilts always have a variety of colors. Fabric is my passion. I will continue to sew and quilt as I see new projects to try.
I am a member of the Racine Lighthouse Quilters guild and enjoy every meeting. It is so much fun sharing time with people who have the same interest. At our meetings, we have speakers, show and tell, and some social time. New members are always welcome.
