“When I listened to her, I understood: You have to hold out to see how your life unfolds, because it is most likely beyond what you can imagine. It is not a question of if you will survive this, but what beautiful things await you when you do. I had to believe her, because she was living proof. Then she said, Good and bad things come from the universe holding hands. Wait for the good to come.” -Chanel Miller
I’m currently rereading this incredibly powerful memoir. As a sexual assault survivor myself, it is incredibly inspiring and also raw and cutting. Even if you aren’t a survivor, a member of this club that no one wants to be a part of, this is a very important read. Miller goes deep into her assault but more importantly she goes deep into her thoughts and feelings, her coming to terms with it, and her healing. Trauma is something you carry with you for life and Miller does a phenomenal job showing just how deep the grief and the triumphs that come with healing cut. If you have not read it yet, I highly recommend this book.
