Putney Ski Club Hosting All Day Skiathon

Putney Ski Club Bill Koch Youth Skiers invites local Nordic
skiers of all ages and abilities to join them for an all day skiathon on March
7th in Westminster West off West Road. Modeled after 12 and 24 hour
ski marathons held elsewhere but toned down a bit, the Second Annual PSC
Skiathon is scheduled for a more reasonable six hours from 10 am to 4 pm. The
Inaugural Event last year was a wonderful social event, with over 50 skiers
grouping up for laps around the 1 and 2 km ski loops, with plenty of stops to
sit beside the bon fire, eat, rest, sled, play games, and socialize in the
heated barn alongside. Last year, kids set up a set of jumps and a small
terrain park
that kept them occupied for much of the day. The skiathon is
intended to be a social day to enjoy skiing and the outdoors, and to
raise
money for The Putney Historical Society in their efforts to raise funds
to rebuild the General Store. Participants are asked to bring a potluck
dish to
share and pay a suggested $10 entry fee that will be donated to the
General Store Fund. For more information, check the Putney Ski Club BKL
website (http://sites.google.com/site/putneyskiclub/)
or contact Rick Gordon (869-6103) or just show up on the 7th.

Since 1980, the Bill Koch League has introduced thousands of kids to cross country skiing and racing. Our local Putney Ski Club has been among the best in the country and we encourage new skiers to join! ...
