The fitting system on this backpack is out of this world!!!
This backpack from Kelty is my favorite backpack for something like Mount Rainier or a trip to Indian Creek.
It's a 60 Liter that can be extended for as much as 100 Liters. It comes with a free rain cover and weighs around 5 pounds. It's on sale at Mountainworks for $249.
The first 5 climbers who purchase this backpack will get to climb a multipitch tower in the desert with me and some friends.
Call Mountainworks for more details at 801-371-0223.

WEEKEND WEATHER REPORT>>> GO TO MAPLE CANYON!!! If you've never been to Maple Canyon, this weekend will be scrumptilicious weather.
If you're a 5.10 and under climber, go to Orangutan Wall.
If you're a 5.11 to 5.12 climber, go to Minimum Crag.
If you're a 5.13 to 5.14 climber, go to The Pipedream.
If you've got a huge ego, go to Box Canyon and get yourself checked.
What do you think is the hardest (sandbag) area in Maple?

I have a bunch of Sierra Design Sleeping Bags on sale Half Off!!
I have 20 degree, 0 degree, and -20 degree Bags.
I only have about 2 of each the degrees available.
These are really great for car camping or where you don't have to hike in too far.
Or.... You're climbing the scariest, wettest, nastiest thing that's in the Rockies, and you need a bag that will keep you warm when the s**t hits the fan, so to speak. Where a down bag has the chance of getting wet no matter what you do.
Call or come into Mountainworks, 801-687-4589.
They are half off if that listed price in the window.

Endor Wall is a fun crag to take someone who wants to lead easy climbs with huge exposure.
About a 40-minute hike from the mouth of Rock Canyon, it pays to start early.
Cross the first wooden bridge and then leave the trail and head up the talus. You'll hit The Tap Wall. Turn left, go down slightly, and then head up a gully/trail of sorts. THE TRAIL WILL Y-BRANCH. DON'T GO RIGHT. STAY LEFT. You'll hit Mission Block on your left, then Milky Way on your right, then The Death Star. (These are the 10's I mention later.)
Next, you're at Endor.
The earlier, the better. It goes in the sun around 1 pm.
There's a 5.8 and a 5.9 to the right. And a bunch of 10's even further to the right.
A good time will be had by all.

Pinkies are over-rated in climbing, but the index finger...
I was looking at an old photo from a 5.12 at The Curse Wall in AF and noticed I wasn't using my pinky, but I was also not using the index finger on a hold that definitely looks usable.
There's a bazillion times that I don't use my pinky....
But the index finger ... not bloody likely that I'm not using that finger.
But then there's this photographic evidence.

The Mandela Effect does exist, because I can't remember anytimes that I didn't use that finger when I could of.

Photo most likely by Jeff Baldwin.

Weekend Weather Report...

Where to go that has the lowest chance of rain?
The more north and northwest you go from Provo, the less chance of rain especially on Sunday.
Areas that should be good to great are:
Good old City of Rocks.
Logan, Blacksmith, and Ogden.
LCC, BCC.
AF and Rock Canyon
Also West Desert Areas seem to have a very low chance. So... Marjum, Death, Ibex, Masada could be ok in the shade.

(Most sandstone areas most likely won't be dried out for the weekend, so Joe's, Price, Swell, and Moab could be a big no go.)

Want to get on a awesome pumpy 10b in Big Cottonwood?
Look up "ctr" at The Challenge Buttress.
Choose to Rage is in the shade until around 1 pm.
There's quite a few tricky sections, but after each one is a pretty good rest or shake out.
If 10b's your limit, then warmup on the 5.7, 5.8, and Hollow Man 5.9, you passed along the way.
If you send this one and it's still shady, hit Better than Bitter (trickier 10c) and Winky and Waxman (10d), a short, stout, small piece of perfection.
If the sun hits, eat lunch, then head back around The Challenge Buttress to the east face and there's a bunch of killer climbs from 5.5 to 11.
If you've already done those and you want to get in some cardio, hike up that talus slope from hell and climb at The Lonely Challenge.
It has one of the best 5.9's called Watermelon Tetris.

Oh yeah, bring your 70 or 80 Meter, and a slew of Quickdraws. If you have a small rack like a set of cams and nuts, there's a fewer of trad climbs as well.

One of my favorite climbs that I've put up is an extension to an existing climb.
When I was climbing the routes at The Minimum Crag, I looked up above the anchors on Groundwork and noticed the largest cobble that I've ever seen at Maple.
I wanted to caress that huge cobble so badly that I just had to put up an extension that climbed all over it.
Cobble Almighty was born!
When you get to the anchors on Groundwork, climb a little higher and milk a killer rest, and then it's easy climbing up to the huge heart-shaped cobble.
When you get to the huge cobble, lean in and give it a little kiss for good luck, and then break out your bouldering skills and send.
Randyl Nielson took the photo that was used for a BlueWater Ad.
(Oh yeah... you'll think that you don't use the huge cobble, but there is a small blemish on the stone that you can use for a foothold.)
A couple of long quickdraws are nice to reduce rope drag.
