New bookshelves plus a BUNCH of new books 📚 We are working on organizing the book section in these nice big bookshelves and checking in boxes and boxes of new books. So many titles I’d like to read myself…gardening, cookbooks, preparedness, foraging, homesteading, chickens, herbalism and more 😊.

Have you ever wondered what the difference is between open pollinated heirloom seeds and hybrid seeds?

One thing many gardeners love about open pollinated heirloom seeds is that you can save seeds from your harvest and plant them again next year. Families have been passing some of these varieties down for generations.

Gardeners also appreciate:
• Unique flavors and colors
• Traditional varieties you may not find in grocery stores
• The ability to become more self-reliant over time
• Preserving old gardening varieties and skills

There’s something really satisfying about planting seeds, watching them grow, and knowing you can continue that cycle year after year.

Whether you’re planting a large garden or just trying a few tomato plants on the porch, heirloom gardening is a wonderful way to learn new skills and grow your own food.

We carry a variety of heirloom garden seeds here at Johnson’s General Store and are always happy to visit about gardening projects and what grows well in our area.

What are you planting in your garden this year?
