We’ve had quite a few people asking us about THCP lately, especially as it seems to be popping up everywhere in flower, pre-rolls, and other smokable products.
So we wanted to take a moment to talk about what THCP flower actually is and why we have personally chosen not to carry it.

First, THCP is a real, naturally occurring cannabinoid. It was identified in cannabis/h**p relatively recently, but the most important part to note is that it only naturally occurs in extremely small amounts, like teeny tiny.

Because THCP naturally occurs in trace amounts, most of the THCP flower and pre-rolls you're seeing didn't naturally grow that way.
That's one of the biggest differences between THCP flower and traditional THCA flower.

Most THCA flower naturally develops its cannabinoid profile while the plant is growing, and the THCA content is already present in the flower when it's harvested, the way nature intended.

THCP flower, on the other hand, is often created by starting with a low-grade h**p flower and then adding THCP distillate through a spraying or coating process. It may appear extra frosty, heavily coated, unusually sticky, and have high percentages that seem almost too good to be true.

And while both products may be sold in the h**p market as “flower”, they're typically produced very differently.

So why is it popping up everywhere?
Well, as regulations continue to change and certain products become harder to source, what usually follows is a surge of “alternatives" trying to fill those gaps.
The market doesn't stop, it shifts. And we’re seeing that happen in real time.

And we’ve chosen not to make that shift.

We’ve always held our products to a very high standard, and that goes far beyond just what’s on the label. We pay attention to how products are grown, how they’re processed, how cannabinoids are extracted, what ingredients are used, lab reports, and whether or not we feel confident standing behind them from start to finish.

For us, it isn’t just the fact that something was added to the flower, it’s everything that comes along with that. Where did the THCP come from? How was it produced? What testing was performed? What ingredients, solvents, or processing methods were used along the way?
When transparency on a product starts becoming harder to navigate, we don’t feel confident introducing it to consumers, and THCP flower just isn’t something we can stand behind.

This post isn’t at all meant to push fear, judgment, or tell anyone what they should or shouldn’t buy. We have had a ton of questions, and believe everyone has a right to know what they’re putting into their bodies, how those products are made, and what separates one product from another.
Transparency has always been important to us, and you deserve to be educated so you can feel confident in the products you choose to consume.

And if you ever have question, or are curious about a cannabinoid, product, or even a lab report, bring it by or give us a call. We’re always more than happy to help.

With so much love,
-The Coastal Buds Team

One of the hardest parts about these last few months has been feeling like we’ve been letting people down.

So many of y’all come in looking for your usual products, asking when certain things are coming back, or noticing that some of our shelves have looked a little emptier than usual. And we completely understand the frustration, especially when these are products you have worked into your routine and have come to genuinely know and rely on.

The reality is, this industry has been all over the place. Every few days it feels like something changes. A new update comes out, another hearing happens, suppliers pause shipments, companies hold off on production, everybody starts hearing different things from different directions… and the entire industry has kind of been trying to regain its footing in real time.

And honestly, that’s also made it a lot harder to confidently commit to larger orders the way we normally would. With things shifting so quickly, we’ve had to be a lot more cautious about what we bring in and how much we commit to at one time, just to make sure we’re protecting our store, staying responsible through all the uncertainty, and continuing to make the best decisions possible for our customers.

So over here, we’ve been moving a little more carefully than usual while all of this settles out. We’ve spent a lot of time checking in on products with suppliers, waiting on answers, paying attention to compliance updates, and trying to make thoughtful decisions about what comes into the shop instead of just rushing to refill shelves.

More than anything though, we just really want to say thank you.

We know this has been frustrating for a lot of people, and truthfully it’s been incredibly frustrating on our end too. But through all of it, so many of y’all have continued to show us patience, support, understanding, and grace, and we genuinely don’t take that for granted.

To everybody who’s checked in on us, continued shopping with us, recommended us to friends, waited patiently for products to come back, or simply stuck beside us while things have felt uncertain, thank you. Seriously.

We’ve always cared deeply about our shop and the community around it, and seeing so many people continue to have our backs through all of this has meant more to us than we can properly put into words. We love you guys.

Hey fam 🥲

We know it’s been a little quieter on our page lately.
As you know, the last few months have been a lot behind the scenes.
Between the constant back and forth with DSHS, court hearings, rule changes, trying to keep up with what’s happening day by day, and just coasting through the emotional rollercoaster of this industry lately. We’ve honestly been a little stuck between relieved, exhausted, hopeful, overwhelmed, all of it.

And honestly, when things get this chaotic, it gets hard to even know what to post anymore.

But we’re still here. Still doing our best every single day for this community and this little business we’ve built together over the last few years.

We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to keep bringing in compliant products, restocking some of your favorites, finding new things that we genuinely feel good about carrying, and continuing to create a space that feels welcoming, safe, and calm in the middle of all this noise.

Oh and we’ve got some really cool things slowly making their way into the shop right now, and we’re hoping to get back into a better rhythm on here again too!

We appreciate y’all more than you know for sticking with us through all of this. Thank you for the patience, support, check-ins, conversations, and for continuing to show up for small businesses like ours. It truly means everything.
And as always, we know you have options. Thank you for choosing us 🫶🏼🥹

With so much love,
-The Coastal Buds Team

“Here’s what it looks like on the ground, though.
Retailers don’t know what to put on shelves. Manufacturers don’t know if they can fill orders. Customers don’t know if the products they like will be there next week.
When the rules change four times in five weeks, the rules are not really riles, they”re guesses.”

Texas h**p wins again!!! A major victory came down today as a Texas judge has granted industry wide temporary injunctive relief on 4 components of recently finalized DSHS rules- most prominently stopping the total THC calculation that saves THCA flower and concentrates from being banned for retail sale. While it is a huge day for the Texas h**p industry, there is extreme turbulence in the future as the Texas Supreme Court has ruled in favor of DSHS in the lawsuit that was stopping them from making D8 an illegal scheduled substance. This has huge implications for the broader cannabinoid market in the coming days and weeks. The temporary injunction on DSHS rules litigated will remain in effect until the end of trial, which is set to commence on Monday, July 27th.

“Judge Daniella DeSeta Lyttle’s ruling on Friday follows one from another judge last month who issued a temporary restraining order on the h**p product ban. Under the latest order, broad h**p product sales can continue until at least July 27.

The decisions come amid a lawsuit brought by a coalition of h**p industry leaders and advocacy organizations that claim the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) illegally bypassed lawmakers to effectively ban the sale and manufacture of certain consumable h**p products.“

Quick update:
Good news! The judge ruled in our favor and the TI has been granted! 🥳

What this means:
The state can’t enforce the THCA smokeable ban right now and everything is basically paused while it goes through the courts, flower, pre-rolls and dabs are still here! 🥲

But to be completely honest, this could be temporary. Things can and are likely going to shift fast since the state and DSHS are most likely going to try and appeal this.

Right now, this just gives everyone a little breathing room while everything gets figured out.

So on that note, we’re here, we’re open, and we’re celebrating this win with deals all day long 🙏🙏

TRO on Texas smokeables has been extended to May 1st! 🙏

The hearing is now scheduled for April 28–30, and the Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) remains in effect.

The court date was extended to ensure sufficient time to fully present the case. Our legal team at Butler Snow determined that one day would not be enough to cover the complexity and importance of the issues at hand. This additional time allows for a more thorough presentation and strengthens our ability to achieve a favorable outcome.

A good time for a reminder that locking people up for low level ma*****na offenses doesn’t solve anything and our federal laws need to catch up with the times
