While piano tuning, and associated services such as repairs, restoration, brokering and appraisal take up most my professional life, I am also a serious wildlife photographer. See the sample photo of a juvenile osprey taken on the Tualatin river. Photos, cards, triptychs are available at the website! The two websites are linked.

Tuned a wonderful old Marshall Wendel player upright today! The craftsmanship they used in building the piano helped it last 99 years so far. What they wrote on the inside of these instruments where only a few folks see is interesting. Showing these inside statements was likely part of the original sales pitch.

This piano built to please true music lovers and to last a life time.
at 99 years old I think that they met that goal. Not sure how long my cell phone will last.

A Lost Motion Compensator is a rail that was designed specifically for upright pianos. The function of the rail works when the pedal is depressed. It improves the players ability to nuance fine soft tones. Something that is far more difficult without this rail. Few are made today as it is expensive and time consuming. Here is a shot of what that rail looks. For those with a little technical knowledge you will notice that there is a special piece created just for the purpose of coming into contact with this pivot rail. They look like little sticks coming out to touch the rail. These little pieces are made specifically for this purpose. So you will usually find these lost motion rails on vintage pianos from the 1900 -1930's range.
