We are grateful for the opportunity that have returned last week to Nordstrom in Downtown Portland. Special thank you to for highlighting local Black-owned businesses in THE best department store in the city 😏

Recently, I had the pleasure of speaking to a class of 1st graders about being a small business owner 👨🏽‍🏫🖍️

The class learned more about Colombia, the history of mochilas wayuu, and even got to design their own mochilas, bags, and accessories!

It was important for me to share with these kids, most of which were Black and Brown, the importance of continuing to be creative and curious - not to limit themselves or let others define them.

At their age, I had no interest in starting anything close to No Replica Bags. Even if I had interest, designing handbags was not a socially encouraged option for Black boys. It wasn’t until I graduated college and moved 3,000 miles away did this idea even begin to start in my mind.

No Replica Bags is deeply personal to me in many ways. We aim to honor Indigenous textiles + techniques, form strong community ties, and CREATE.

I left the classroom inspired not only by the students creativity in their designs (one student made a 3d wallet out of the coloring sheets), but by their never ending curiosity. The kind that adults typically lose over time.

I hope to get the opportunity to speak to other youth about possibilities: to do what they desire, to be open to new ideas, and to create something new. 💭
