Fun Fact: A childhood dream led to Crater Lake becoming a National Park.

In 1870, a little boy from Kansas - William Gladstone Steel - read about Crater Lake in a newspaper and dreamt of visiting it one day. He finally did in 1885 and then made it his mission to have it named as a national park.

His dream came true on May 22, 1902.

Far From Fun Fact: The US National Park Service is facing a proposed $1.5 billion budget cut this year.
