Besides these two bills I had to pay my helper, my mechanic for two jobs he recently did, fuel on both truck and equipment, plus other business expenses all in 1 week. All my mowers need new blades. Blades for the small one cost $55. The zero turn blades cost $100+tax. I have 3 mowers. I have to buy new blades next week. Oil changes will have to be in a few weeks. To run a registered business is very hard because we spend a lot to operate our business. Every yard we do or get, we pay City, State and Federal taxes as well. Most ppl say we charge a lot to mow but dont understand we dont get the whole amount. Its getting harder and harder to stay open. Any award we win, we have to pay $300+tax for them as well. Each week we pay hundreds if not thousands of dollars on business expenses. Its tough running a legit business. Plus we have advertising which cost money and much more. Customers always want to ask businesses for discounts or whatever but as a business we dont get any discounts ourselves. Another problem out here is guys are breaking even because they dont factor in the costs to run a business during slow months. In business, you need to think about the negative also. What if you cant work. What if something happens. What if!? As a business we need to charge enough for fuel, insurance, equipment repairs, maintenance, tools, advertising, travel time, estimates, cleanups, and much more! The truck and equipment doesn't magically refuel or fix itself. There is always someone willing to do the job cheaper but being busy everyday is not the same thing as being profitable. A professional price is not overcharging, its to make sure we continue upgrading and stay open next month. A lot of businessess drive themselves to the ground not knowing their market or numbers. Ppl see us busy but dont know what it cost to run our business. Sometimes we dont know if we will be open next month. Especially during these hard times.
So be kind to small business owners, we are going through a lot more and struggling than you think. Sometimes we are on our last $100 for the week.
