Having years of experience working other platforms, let's explain how these things work using a hypothetical business we will call "SlowBuggy."
This is a normal receipt. SlowBuggy does not want us to give the customer their receipt, because it exposes their pricing. They do not like to explain to the customer why their milk cost them 3.49, when advertised at the store it is 2.99, and their rewards marked it down another .50 on top of that; or this cherry coke that they got for 4.66, has been charged to you 5.99+dep. Not everything is overpriced, but there is significant money here that they acquire from your orders. This receipt does not show it, but another one has shown me that the savings from 2021 have already accumulated $1million, all lining the pockets of Big Corp, and that is just this 1 store!
SlowBuggy would offer a base pay upon acceptance to shop. This base pay is generally $7. You literally work for tips. Some customers tip extremely well, some don't tip at all.
Now imagine your tip not being reflective of the work you actually do. Imagine climbing 5 flights of stairs with 10 cases of water, and $200 worth of groceries for a $5tip. The customer was happy, got smiling service, and surely thought I was offered more than $12 for that order? Or, it could be possible that my work was undervalued. Either way, this doesn't work for the shopper. We work hard! We deal with all the hassles...and know that's a lot! LOL.
Think what this might be worth to you:
- Convenience (order everything at the tip of your fingers, from your couch.)
- Selection: SlowBuggy might have 5 "Fred Meyers" for us to choose from - so while you think we are coming from the one down the street, we are actually being dispatched from one 4 cities over. GMS will shop nearer you, at AnY store in existence. We can pick up your dinner on the way, or place the order for you and wait for it: all for the same price! It's really like you're there yourself.
Free Time: Never miss family time again because we will cut your schedule down by at least a couple hours.
Hassles: No traffic, no waiting in line, no social distancing worries. No parking. No walking that cart back in the rain. No heavy lifting. No using your own gas. No need to renew that Costco membership. No need to climb those 5 flights of stairs!
Speed: SlowBuggy loves to lump in 3 orders at a time. You can pay extra to have it as a solo, but if not- trust that your 10 item order is likely paired other people's 40 item orders. Guess who suffers here? You. Me. But not SlowBuggy! They actually saved $14 from that $7 base I mentioned earlier, by assigning these 3 orders to us with only 1 base pay! And if we don't want to shop it, our cancellation rate goes up to where we are punished! With GMS, you don't have to wait, dependent on the other person's order. Our time is your time, and you only.
Caring: Little Jimmy needs Gluten-Free, so we will go to another store for you if this one doesn't have your bread preference. Aunt Sally can't afford the delivery cost today because it's the end of the month, so we waived all costs and delivered for free because we love aunt Sally. Aaron and Betty need 5 stores shopped for their wedding party this weekend...no worries because I will go to all of them for you and lump it into 1 invoice. Anything to make your life easier and better spent. And hey! This store has Little Jimmy's elusive bread on sale here - let me grab a loaf as a gift for him, just because it's so hard to find. We love to see Little Jimmy happy!
I have helped an elderly lady pick up her knocked over belongings, put away lots of groceries for elderly customers, and more than enough times have had to follow imaginably difficult delivery directions - even jumping fences!. (We really have seen it all LOL). All of this would be included for no cost, because we Care. And now you don't have to explain your directions every time. We will remember that you love paper, not plastic; we will remember you don't want your produce bagged; we will remember you are allergic to nuts; and your order will be bagged appropriately, every time.
Negotiable Pricing: As you can see, each order varies, and each customer and their needs vary. This makes payment structuring very difficult. Because of this, we incorporated a "Suggested Gratuity" as part of our model. However, this is NEVER set in stone. Sometimes, you might tip more, sometimes less, but it is always up to you. ANY gratuity is graciously accepted. But to do away with this *suggestion* would mean a higher charge for normal orders, and we don't want to do that either. We just want you to understand why tips are important for these types of services - no matter who you ultimately decide to go with.
Behind the scenes: If you know me as a person, I'm always doing some sort of project for someone or some family, and your tips help fund these activities. I can legitimately say that your tip is going for good because we really do Care. We envision a kinder and better world!
Basically, we spend valuable time hoping to make your life more manageable. We do it fast, efficiently, and safe. There's just something about having a personal assistant at your fingers 24-hours a day...so let us know what that is! It makes our day to hear what we did well, and this includes how we could be better. Thanks for your feedback!
Hopefully, this helps to explain why we look forward to calling you a "client" instead of a "customer." Thanks for considering us! And as always, we look forward to helping your family for days to come.
