One of the greatest things about learning how to fix instruments and amplifiers is when that knowledge comes in clutch on the road and I can fix my own gear before the show. Nothing quite like that feeling of not being dependent on finding someone randomly in a city you're only in for a matter of hours and praying that they'll take your call. Nope, I brought some tools on the road, and just opened it up and fixed the small problem myself. Without fear or worry. 🛠️ Come to Scribble tonight if you're in LA!

Feel pretty accomplished today. Did a massive job on this beautiful Hammond B3 at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church here in Portland. It had problems with the start and run switches, which is typical. But after replacing them, the synchronous run motor still wouldn't turn on. Turns out it needed replacing too. Tight spaces, lots of little wires, plenty of sharp places to bite me, and problems compounded on problems (broken oil wicks are a great source for inventing new swear words 😡) but FINALLY we got her on. Reattached a bunch of broken drawbar wires while I was back there and now she sings like a bird. Not bad for a 75 year old instrument!

How lucky am I! Got the call to come touch up a BEAUTIFUL 1977 Fender Rhodes that KMHD got recently. For those of you outside of "War Ravaged Portland" (🙄) who might not know, this is our local jazz station and I daresay the greatest in the land. It is ALWAYS on in my car, and meeting the DJ's face to face and getting a tour of the facility (and even a T-shirt!) felt like meeting my heroes. The Rhodes was in GREAT condition, just a few touch ups and some tuning here and there were really necessary. Excited to see how she comes into use down here!

Been working all summer trying to get all of my client repair projects down to zero. It's been years for some of these things, with babies and school taking all of my bandwidth, but now that school's out, it's time to work. Making some dents in the pile, still a lot of work to do!

I haven't been posting much, because I haven't been able to do much, because I have been getting WALLOPED in school work this term. But today, as we were headed out to Astoria for the Dark Arts Festival, I was finally able to bring Michael Hurley his precious Wurlitzer 200A back to him. He told me that the last time he had it worked on, they didn't do a very good job, and this was the first time it had sounded right in decades. The fact that he just kept playing it as we left, and I could still hear him plonking away as we got in the car, I'm going to consider a positive review. This was a full amp and reed bar pre amp rebuild with a kit from . Sounds awesome!

Wowee look what came in the mail: I believe it is the first official credit on an album for the business of Nash Keyworks. Pretty cool! Honored to have lent my Hohner D6 Clavinet out to the folks in for their recording session. Record sounds great!

I've been working hard at this school thing for the last year+. Grateful for all of the support from everyone, but most especially from .diy . It's important to me to do a good job at this and really learn all that I can so that I can be a better father and partner. Just two more terms to go. 🦾

My last day in the welding class. Final project was making chassis's for a 5E3 (as a head) and a Leslie. I have rarely enjoyed a class so much! Gonna miss coming here, but hopefully they'll let me sneak back in once in a while to build more cool s**t.

Great to catch up with my buddy at tonight for a hot second while I executed some emergency repairs on his 1978 Fender Rhodes. A lot of screws had rattled out, some random bits and bolts had rattled in, there were damper felt issues, adjustment issues, tone bars misaligned, etc. etc. etc., but we hit a hard power hour and got everything right as reign for his show TONIGHT with The Heeters. Come check it out, they sounded FU***NG INCREDIBLE at soundcheck. 🤘🤯🤘

Glad to pull these two trusted weapons out of the very cluttered shop and bring them down to the TONIGHT for what will surely be a grand time playing with Lewi Longmire and The Root System! and I! Happy hour (6-8), so free as can be, and soon! Come dance off some of that gravy.
