This is my why.
And it hits my heart every time I see it.

My name is Kari Catuogno and I was inspired to create The Hospital Box -- the first and only “Care Package Kit” -- when my mother-in-law was in the hospital recovering from surgery.

I was looking for a special gift that would really mean something. Flowers were too impersonal… I needed something incredibly thoughtful, but quick. And easy! There was nothing out there.

Tears came to her eyes (and mine) when she saw her special care package covered in encouraging messages and family photos...

That was a “light bulb” moment.

So I created The Hospital Box to offer busy caregivers a simple way to touch their loved one’s heart, inspire their recovery and show how much they care.

But my story goes deeper than that. And I want to take a minute to share something even more personal with you. I’m being vulnerable here, so sorry this post is going on a bit long.

There was a reason I wanted my mother-in-law to be surrounded with family photos and comfort of home while she was in the hospital… because I had been there myself.

At the bedside of my youngest son when he was just 4 months old.

He was very suddenly admitted to the hospital. I didn’t leave his side for a minute.

I’m so grateful for the amazing care he received… and beyond thankful for his recovery. But I will never forget how I felt – and how he needed my strength, presence and love. I knew it was carrying him through.

That experience left an imprint on my heart.

35 million children and adults are hospitalized every year in the U.S.

This past year literally stopped us all in our tracks with a reminder that health is precious -- and that love means so much in the healing process.

It is my sincere hope that The Hospital Box continues to grow and expand to give family and friends across the world a meaningful way to lift up their loved ones who are on a journey of recovery.

That’s love – and there is heart in The Hospital Box!
