Just got a tip from an Western Sound salt. he was out and was catching more blackfish with clams than crabs. He was using a two hook rig with a crab and a clam. Clam caught more fish..

DEC to Host Annual 'I Fish NY' Fall Fishing Festival Oct. 19 at Hempstead Lake State Park

Free Fishing, Rods and Bait, Contests, and Activities for Children at Annual Long Island Event
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's (DEC) I FISH NY Program and Freshwater Fisheries Unit and the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (State Parks) today announced the annual Fall Family Fishing and Children's Festival at Hempstead Lake State Park will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"The Hempstead Lake fishing festival is a fantastic event for Long Island families," said DEC Regional Director Cathy Haas. "This festival provides a great bonding experience for attendees while enjoying one of Long Island’s oldest customs, fishing. I encourage everyone to get outside and enjoy the waterfront this fall."
"The Fall Family Fishing Festival offers families and children of all ages an opportunity to experience the joys of fishing," said State Parks Long Island Regional Director George Gorman. "We hope all fishing festival attendees will also take the time to walk around and enjoy the revitalized Hempstead Lake State Park and all it has to offer."
Festival activities include fishing with free loaner rods and bait, fishing instruction, casting instruction, and fish-cleaning services. In addition to fishing opportunities, the festival features a children's casting for pumpkins contest, DEC and State Parks displays, and additional children’s entertainment.
The fishing license requirement for all anglers over the age of 16 is suspended for this festival, and admission and parking are free. The children's casting for pumpkins contest will be held for as long as pumpkins last, during which kids can "catch" a pumpkin and "hook" a prize. Casting contest prizes are provided by I FISH NY and State Parks.
Prior to the festival, State Parks will stock South and McDonald ponds in Hempstead Lake State Park with brook and rainbow trout. DEC stocks brown trout in several other waterbodies in Nassau and Suffolk counties, including Upper Twin Pond, Oyster Bay Mill Pond, Massapequa Reservoir, and 12 additional Suffolk County lakes. These additional stockings will occur by Nov. 1, and provide excellent prospects for fall fishing.

Fall brings some spectacular sunset and sights. A couple of nights ago there was a spectacular moon with Venus next to it. Fall is one of the best times to get out on the water and fish or take a harbor cruise. The Angler Fleet is having blackfish trips on the weekends and Port Tiki is great for a harbor tour.

Just got a fresh batch of sandworms and green crabs. Tautog (Blackfish) season doesn't open until October 11 and you can keep 3 fish 16" and up. Marine waters outside of Long Island Sound don't open until October 15 and you can keep 4 fish 16" and up. If you want to go test out your favorite blackfish spots, we have everything you need.

A view from Chimney Rock in North Carolina. I took this photo when I was there Oct. 3, 2019. The Town of Chimney Rock is in the left side of the photo. The Town is now pretty much gone. Who would think flooding would be such a problem way up in the mountains. The roads there are very steep and windy. Recovery is going to be extremely difficult. Lake Lure in the pictures center is filled with debris from the Town and the small Town of Bat Cave which was also wiped out. Lake Lure and the Lake Lure Inn is where they filmed Dirty Dancing.

Fishing has been great for everything but striped bass. Hopefully the cooler nights will bring them back into the Bay. ...

Just a heads up on lower Main Street. There is a homeless/ emotionally disturbed individual wandering the lower Main Street area. He has harassed several area businesses. He is wearing a long green overcoat and is talking to himself and waving his hands around. He came into my shop asked for vodka, asked what I liked to drink, where was the train station, where was citizens bank. I gave him some directions and he left the store talking to himself. He returned a little later asking for a glass of water. I gave him a bottle of water, he said a couple things I couldn't understand. He grabbed another water and walked out talking to himself. Only thing I could understand him saying on his way out is he was going to fix that bit38. Again wearing a long green overcoat, dark complexion, beard and dread lock-ish hair. Kids from the Spectrum Center walk around here a lot and I am concerned so be on the lookout. The police were contacted and came by but he had walked off. They were just called again after he scared the girl at Douglas and James Ice Cream. They cant do anything unless he does something or is on the property. Again be on alert on Lower Main.
