A while ago we had an organization called FAME, I'm not sure what happened to it but it supported the scholastic music programs in the area. The annual concert was a massive fund raising event where all the bands performed for free and some of the vendors provided free products to help raise the money.
In the absence of FAME we have seen a few music festivals held on Dearborn. While the efforts are appreciated the naming regimens are lacking. "Englestock", "A Tribute to Woodstock". We aren't Woodstock or Bethel Woods. What we do have is a growing musician base from the local schools. We may have enough that spark into the mythical hot bed of a new genre. I pray that happens here to reward the talented students I have seen in the area. We have a few High School. bands "Garage type" playing local venues, Champ Jackson has been on regional stages for years. Corrupt Signal is playing well beyond their years. I feel we have a responsibility to help that grow without putting our imprint upon it. An option would be holding an under 22 band festival for SW Florida. Show case the talent that is emerging. It's time to give the kids a shot and let them play it. I will talk to some friends and businesses to see if we can make this happen for next year.
