Fished the Detroit River on Friday April 5th. Ended up with a 2 man limit of walleye. Cory Bender made the trip with me. Fished mid-river. The hot bait is shown below, a Jeff’s Custom Jigs 3/4 oz jig, Fin S minnow topped with a shiner. Topped off with a 2” Glow #12 Golden Gator Stinger. Works best with the stinger on top of the minnow, don’t know why but it does. GGT stingers work best for doing this. I’ll put a picture of our best drifts up for all the guys making a one day trip. There’s a lot of fish in the system now, gonna keep on getting better. Good luck out there!

On the eve of spring fishing season, here’s an award from last years Michigan DNR Master Angler Program. I caught two lake whitefish last year that made the 23” minimum. One 24.25” and the other was 24.50”. The DNR sends some interesting info about all the other master anglers caught for that species too. Both of them swam away to be caught again!

You can only submit one entry for a species per year.

Here’s some Saginaw River walleye for ya! Kenny Rutz and a friend took home a 2 man limit a couple weeks ago, caught and released 20+. That’s a great day. Sounds like the fishing is still good if you can tough the elements.

Slow Sunday on the Detroit River, did manage a few nice walleye though. Had the most action with a 1oz "bubble gum" jig, some bright plastics, and of course a GGT 2" Orange Stinger #12. Golden Gator Tackle stingers definitely helped, as a couple were only hung by the stinger. - Website will be back up shortly! Keep some in your jig box.
