From the innkeeper's window...it’s a good sign! We’re back to normal after 2 years of renovations. No more construction vans in the parking lot, just our guests’ cars.

We still grow lavender on our 10.5 acre estate, but you’ll find a crop of hay that’s ready to cut where the farm’s parking lot used to be found. Note the morning fog that has enveloped the strait. Update: the hay has now been cut!

Wildflowers and lavender blend well together here where the Olympic Mountains roll down to the sea! That's actually Mount Rainier, not Mount Olympus, but wildflowers thrive here at the gateway to the Olympic National Park.

Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park provides accessible alpine scenery.

The drive ascends from sea level to 5,242 feet in 17 miles. In July and early August the subalpine meadows are carpeted in extraordinary wildflower displays.

Those who hike the Hurricane Hill trail on a clear summer day and look down at the flower-filled meadows while the Olympic peaks rise above describe it as the most accessible and most visually extraordinary alpine experience available within two hours of Seattle.

Times are changing, so is our English language. We've graduated from a "Bed and Breakfast" to a "Boutique Inn"!

What is a Boutique Inn?

A boutique inn is a small, independently operated lodging property that emphasizes unique character, intimate atmosphere, and highly personalized service. Unlike large, standardized hotel chains, boutique inns are designed to provide a one-of-a-kind experience, often reflecting the local culture, history, or a specific, trendy theme.

Key Characteristics

Intimate Size: Typically, these properties have fewer than 100 rooms (often under 50), allowing for a quiet, home-like, or exclusive feel.

Unique Design & Style: Boutique inns are known for stylish, high-end, or eclectic decor that breaks away from corporate, cookie-cutter designs. They frequently operate out of restored historic buildings, chic townhouses, or specialized, artistic spaces.

Personalized Service: Because they are smaller, staff can focus on individual guest needs, offering a level of attention and customized service that large hotels cannot match.

Local Flair: They are often deeply rooted in their community, offering locally sourced food, curated art, and insider knowledge of the area.

Prime Locations: Frequently situated in trendy city centers, historic districts, or unique, picturesque locations.

Why Choose a Boutique Inn?

Travelers often choose boutique inns to avoid the "bland" experience of corporate hotels, seeking instead a "memorable" stay that offers "authentic" local immersion and "tailored" comfort. They often feel less like a temporary lodging and more like a curated, high-end guest house.

The inn received its first review since 2023! It made our day.

"I felt truly honored to be among the first guests at George Washington Inn after its reopening, especially after learning that we were part of the first wave of guests in more than two years. We stayed in the General Washington Suite for two nights, and the experience was exceptional.

The inn is grand, elegant, spotless, and beautifully maintained. Its location on a coastal bluff offers extraordinary views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic Peninsula. The setting is peaceful and majestic.

Janet and Dan are wonderful hosts. Janet personally prepared breakfast each morning with a warm Southern touch, and the common areas were beautifully organized, including a charming library and snack area. Her freshly baked cookies were outstanding. Dan is a knowledgeable gentleman with a deep love of American history, and the inn itself is a remarkable replica inspired by George Washington’s Mount Vernon.

Under their care, the property feels both historically meaningful and genuinely warm. I would highly recommend George Washington Inn to travelers seeking an elevated, peaceful, and memorable stay on the Olympic Peninsula."
