There’s a new look to the attachment points on our mainlines. We’ve killed every type of hand and pneumatic swager on the market over the years. Also the finished swages on these 1/4” button stops has never been completely satisfactory with traditional swaging tools. We tried many die types with our new industrial class hydraulic machinery, and finally settled on this one. One press instead of two, cleaner finished press with zero flashing or sharp edges, and more cable contact with the fitting walls as well as smaller inside diameter after pressing. This results in virtual elimination of slipping button stops, even as the mainline wears over the years. We’re always chasing improvements behind the scenes and quality is the main driver.

Appreciate the shout out Coppershot Griffons! I like the idea of wrapping the drop around the upright to keep the dog stationary. Always getting great ideas about our own products from folks using it.

Difficult to be this happy in the offseason. This season was one of the most enjoyable I’ve had in 15 years chasing woodcock. Hunted the vast majority of the La woodcock season-days behind experienced dogs and saw some great runs. This year we weren’t ready for it to end, but grateful for a few months of wild birds and dogs that are fun to run. Sprinkles, in her 9th season, had some days where she surprised me and showed up as her younger self. This picture was taken of her and me by my good friend after a healthy 20 or 35 bird morning (depending on if you ask me or Paul 😂…)

Large Marge (Ch Rester’s Jonny Ringo x Rester’s Katie Lee)

Marge is so much dog for what I do, but really enjoy handling her. She’s naturally a true search-bait, and in her third season, becoming a more cooperative cover dog. Get her into birds quickly or she’ll get hard to hang onto, but some days that’s exactly what you need to find birds. Not sure how many birds flushed from this find in the picture but Paul and I had one single bird find on that entire walk. The rest were all multiple flushes 👊🏼.

Some the best times of the season came the in last two weeks. I love this picture of Sunny and Velcro that my friend Paul took. We had a perfect 5 birds/5 shots going until I muffed number 6 in sight of the truck. Doing my part 🤝🏼.

I rarely brace Velcro and Large Marge together. They both run wide and in a woods/cover situation they both pair better with Sprinkles or solo. Velcro had two limb finds in the first two miles of this walk. Marge was birdless until she started reaching and ended up pointed a few hundred yards inside of really thick cutover. Got to her in about 10 minutes and almost caught the bird she was pointing with my hands. The next 100 yards it seemed like every patch had a bird. We got our last bird out of that flurry and I heeled them out once we got out of that slug of birds. I feel like that is where each of these dogs shine. Velcro can be hard going, powerful, fast, and dig up birds with precision while pushing the edges of the 10-2 pocket. Marge can go as far as I’ll let her and she will eventually get into birds. This time, she found a stretch of 8-10 in a huge area that appeared otherwise sterile. Not a ton of birds, not my favorite area, and definitely not the best hero picture of a limit of woodcock. More importantly it was a satisfying walk behind dogs where you have a feeling of gratitude and peace at the end. Three days left.
