Since the beginning of Point Reyes Adventure Co., we’ve always been trying to find ways to make it easier for people to experience Point Reyes.

Over the years we’ve quietly covered spots whenever we could, but as a small two-person business in Marin County, there’s only so much we can do ourselves.

We’d been hoping to start a Fund A Tour program for a long time, and when a local supporter offered to cover several spots on one of our Community Tours this year, it inspired us to make the program official.

We hope this program helps more folks connect with this landscape in ways that might not otherwise have been possible.

Locals Only Bioluminescence Tours Are Back!

Last year, we offered a handful of bioluminescence tours exclusively for West Marin locals, and they quickly became some of our favorite nights of the season.

There's something special about experiencing the glowing water of Tomales Bay alongside the people who love this place. These evenings are a chance to connect with neighbors, meet new friends, paddle with old friends, and experience one of nature's most incredible phenomena together.

As a thank you to our local community, these tours are offered at 25% off our regular rate for West Marin residents and workers. (These tours are available only to folks who live or work in West Marin.)

We're incredibly honored to share that this summer, Liz and I will be partnering with West Marin Community Services to help lead Waterdogs.

For generations, Waterdogs has been a rite of passage for West Marin youth, helping kids build confidence, swimming skills, water safety knowledge, and a lifelong connection to our local waters. Countless local kids have learned to swim, explored Tomales Bay, and made memories that have lasted a lifetime through this amazing program.

As longtime members of this community, it's hard to express what it means to be entrusted with carrying forward such a beloved tradition. We are deeply grateful to the many instructors, volunteers, families, and participants who have shaped Waterdogs into what it is today. Your dedication has impacted generations of young people and created a legacy that continues to inspire.

As we look ahead to this season, we're hoping to grow our volunteer team. We're especially looking for lifeguards, swim instructors, and past Waterdogs participants who would like to help the next generation experience the same magic they did.

This year's dates: Monday to Friday from July 20th to 31st @ Heart's Desire Beach

See the yellow pouches on this bee’s hind legs?

They’re called pollen baskets, and honey bees use them to transport pollen back to the hive. After visiting flowers, the bee combs pollen from the hairs covering her body, mixes it with a little nectar, and packs it into these dense pellets for the trip home.

While nectar provides energy for the colony, pollen is their primary source of protein. It’s used to feed developing larvae and young bees, helping support the next generation of the hive.

Fun fact: every bee you see carrying pollen is female. Worker bees are responsible for gathering food for the colony, and the pollen baskets visible here are an adaptation found only on female bees. 🌸🐝

We joined the entire Tomales High School for a day at Heart's Desire Beach (at Tomales Bay State Park) last Friday and brought our fleet of kayaks and SUPs for everyone to enjoy throughout the day.

As a small local business, events like these mean the world to us. We believe everyone should have a chance to experience the magic of Tomales Bay, and we're always excited when we can help make that happen for our local schools and youth programs.

Thanks to the students, teachers, and staff for making it such a memorable day!

We’re excited to announce the launch of the Point Reyes Adventure Co. online merch store!

This first round of original designs was inspired by some of our favorite things out here: sea kayaks, coastal trails, and bioluminescence.

We chose to begin with a print-on-demand model because as a small owner-operated business, it allows us to create without overproducing inventory or creating unnecessary waste. It also gives us the freedom to slowly release new ideas and designs over time.

That being said, supporting local businesses and artists is also really important to us, and we’re planning to collaborate with local folks on future projects and limited-run items later this year. 🙌
