Hey Misfits, Adam here. This is a post we've debated making for a little bit now, but we're just going to come out with it: we're closing the storefront. Saturday, December 14th will be our last day open as a public-facing business.
As a scorned lover might says, "It's not you. It's me." That's the truth. You all have been great the past year — the store's just become something we can't continue to sustain in its current form. We've often joked that we're the world's smallest game and comics store, and that's been a double-edged sword. The size has kept costs down and manageable, but it's also prohibited us from hosting large events that'd help inject some meaty revenue into the store. Currently, there's not really anywhere to expand in town that'd help us keep the "magic" alive.
Most importantly, however, it's been a huge time suck for the Meltdown Crew. Grammy and Papa Meltdown and Al have put in lots and lots of hours at the shop and, quite frankly, Mrs. Meltdown and I would rather go back to the days of family game and movie nights and give our weekends back to ourselves now.
All that said, we'll still be around. We'll still physically be at 19 3rd Ave NW, just as a business focused on online sales. We're going to dedicate more time to our digital sales through both Facebook and other online presences such as TikTok and Whatnot. And we'll continue to organize Princess City Comic-Con every fall, in addition to Meltdown Monster Madness right around Halloween. In fact, we'll even consider ourselves open by appointment if you want to dig through some longboxes or come in to buy the latest Meltdown Press release (ahem, House of Haunts #1 is currently on Kickstarter).
If you see someone at the shop, still feel free to stop on by and have a chat. In the meantime, here’s another picture of Meltdown Mite being cute as s**t, as he always is:
