Retailers and Pokémon sellers, please be aware.
On May 15, 2026, an individual identifying himself as Mylen Hailey made in-person purchases at State of Comics using a credit card and matching identification. The transactions totaling $7,154.98 were completed as card-present purchases, and the merchandise was taken at the time of sale.
Thirty-five days later, a chargeback was filed against our business.
We have disputed the chargeback, submitted supporting documentation, including evidence that the transaction was completed in person, and filed a police report regarding the incident.
During our investigation, we located public records that appear to show Shelby County, Tennessee warrants associated with the same name for theft-related and credit-card-related offenses. We also learned of similar concerns raised by other retailers.
As a small business, situations like this hurt. We work hard every day to serve our community, create a welcoming place for collectors, and provide a safe environment for fans of comics, Pokémon, and pop culture.
We are sharing this information so that other retailers can exercise caution, verify identification on high-value transactions, and maintain thorough records.
If you've been considering supporting State of Comics, now would be a great time. Every purchase, share, recommendation, and kind word helps us continue doing what we love and serving this amazing community.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us through the years. Your support means more than you know.
