Minnesota Pools - Pool Builds Rippling Water Spa's are the quietest in the industry.

Swimming pools have a huge influence on your home and the way you spend your free time. It can be the center of recreation for you and your household, a source of pleasure and relaxation, a beautiful centerpiece for your yard, and can increase the value of your house and property significantly. Pool owners also know that these advantages don’t come without cost and effort. It can be a challenge to

maintain thousands of gallons of water in a constantly changing environment, keeping it free of algae and pollutants, balancing water chemistry, and cultivating that pristine sparkle that makes your pool so inviting. Owned and managed by Dave Gust, Dolphin Pool and Spa has made a mission of helping families enjoy their pools and get the most out of their investment, everything from building vinyl in-ground pools, to renovations, to providing regular service and maintenance on water and equipment. And as the name suggests, they also sell and service acrylic spas.

“We offer custom lighting and water features to spice up your existing pool design. Our newly remodeled retail store includes new stand-alone spas, pool and spa parts, and chemicals and accessories,” said Gardner. The retail location in Plymouth is also home to their experienced service department, trained to partner with pool and spa owners, addressing their individual needs and helping manage the issues that come with Minnesota weather. In recognition, Dolphin Pool and Spa received the 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 Sun Readers’ Choice Award for being the number one best hot tub and pool store.

“We have established an outstanding reputation for quality products and service. Credit for this goes to everyone one of our employees,” said Gust. “Dolphin Pool and Spa has been in the same location since 1979. In those 38 years, we’ve amassed a sizeable group of trained, longtime employees. We take care of our employees because without them we could not fulfill our purpose: making pool ownership a joy.”

Though based in Plymouth, the service department covers the entire metro area, providing full cleaning, maintenance, and repair. “We specialize in vinyl liner repairs and replacements, as well as coping and tile repair, pool equipment repair and upgrades, and pool cover repair and installation. Our techs take before and after pictures and email our customers an update as soon as we are finished with the job,” said Gardner. One of the company’s core values is knowledge, that is why they have made information and education a priority believing that the best, most satisfied customers are the most knowledgeable. Their YouTube channel (YouTube.com/c/dolphinpoolandspa) highlights short, fun videos that explain and demystify pool chemistry and equipment, and an annual “Pool School”, held in their retail store, is taught by a representative from BioLab, the company’s pool chemical vendor. They also sell the full line of Rippling Water Spas, from large family spas to hydro-therapy spas offering targeted massage and full body rejuvenation.

🍂 You pull back the cover and... yikes. Dark water, floating leaves, and something that used to be a frog. Sound familiar?

A pool full of rainwater and winter debris is one of the most common spring calls we get — and the good news is there's a clear process for dealing with it. It just takes patience, the right products, and knowing what to expect along the way.

Our latest article walks you through the whole recovery: getting the equipment running, pulling out the debris, checking your water level, testing and balancing chemistry, and shocking the pool back to life. We also break down what the recovery actually looks like — from black and impenetrable, to pea green, to blue-green, to cloudy, to crystal clear. Each stage means something, and knowing what to expect keeps you from panicking when progress feels slow.

Plus — we have a 10% off coupon for a box of BioGuard Shock Complete right in the article. It's our favorite product for exactly this situation.

🏊 If your pool liner is looking faded, wrinkled, or just plain tired — it might be time.

Most vinyl liners last 7 to 12 years, and when they go, a replacement is one of the best investments you can make in your pool. But there's more to the job than pulling out the old liner and dropping in a new one — and we want you to know exactly what to expect before you sign anything.

Our latest article walks through the whole process: what the floor inspection involves and what's included in our bid, the $500 chemical bath we do before the new liner goes in, how painting the coping makes the whole pool look brand new, and how we can have your pool filled with pre-treated water in hours — not days — through our friends at Chlorinated Water Supply.

🏊 To DIY or not to DIY — that is the question every pool owner asks in spring.

Both options have real merit. DIY saves money and works great if you know your equipment. Hiring a pro means a trained technician has eyes on everything before the season starts — and you get your Saturday back.

Our latest article breaks it all down honestly: pros, cons, costs, and a simple decision guide to help you figure out which route makes the most sense for your pool. We also clear up one of the biggest misconceptions in pool ownership: opening your pool means it’s running — not that it’s ready to swim in. There’s an important difference, and we explain exactly what to expect after opening day.

⚙️ Your variable speed pump is one of the best investments you've made in your pool — but are you getting the most out of it this spring?

Early spring in Minnesota means cold water, lower bather load, and different circulation needs than peak summer. Running your pump too fast wastes energy. Running it too slow means poor filtration and chemistry problems. Getting the settings right from the start makes a big difference all season long.

We put together a complete guide on the ideal variable speed pump settings for early spring in Minnesota — so you're running efficiently and keeping your water clean from day one.

🔥 There's nothing better than jumping into a perfectly heated pool on a cool Minnesota spring evening — but only if your heater is ready to go!
After sitting dormant all winter your heater needs a proper inspection before startup. Skipping this step is one of the most common causes of mid-season breakdowns — and nobody wants to deal with a heater repair when it's finally warm enough to swim.
We put together a complete guide on how to get your pool heater ready for spring — what to inspect, how to start it up safely, and what warning signs to watch for before the season gets underway.
