I know it has been a while since I have posted on our page (I don't post much on social media) but I feel like I needed to share my feelings about my very good friend, Terry Szink. When I began my guitar building journey about 8 years ago, Terry was the first person I told. I knew he would be supportive since he was a serious guitar enthusiast. In fact, he scolded me for not starting sooner since he knew I had some woodworking skills and had even suggested that I do so years earlier. He was right. I should have started sooner. As you can see from the few photos I have posted he was with me from the start. He supported me in my first solo build, he helped me build my own shop (at least he sat and watched), he created the DZS logo and name (he is the SZ in DZS), and he stayed by my side until the end.

Unfortunately, Terry passed away after a long battle with cancer a few months ago. It has been difficult for me to get building again. I guess I didn't realize how much of an inspiration he was for me to build. Sometimes he would just come to the shop and sit and watch me build. I didn't realize how much I appreciated that friendship until it was gone.

I guess it's time for me to get back in the shop. There are a couple of guitars that he was working on that I'll be honored to finish and give to his family. Plus some others of mine that I also need to finish that people are waiting for. I just want to let the world know that I miss my friend and will remember him each time I step foot in the shop and finish a guitar that bears the DZS logo. -Jason

My inexpensive Harbor Freight workbench is just not sturdy enough for some of my guitar building tasks. So I’ve decided to construct a new workbench myself that will fit the bill. It will be a split top Roubo style made from hard maple for the base and hickory for the top. I’ll even add some sapele accents. No reason it shouldn’t be pretty as well as functional, right?

I’ve got more work done on Jacob’s guitar. It’s starting to look like an actual instrument now.
