Moo… I Am a Cow : This Is A Real Throwback On Style Moving Forward
A real 2020 throwback. reflecting on an old blog post, personal style during uncertain times, and how getting dressed became an act of self-expression, growth, and self-care beyond fashion.
Have you ever looked back at old pictures and thought, What was I thinking? Or maybe even asked yourself, What was I wearing? That’s exactly where I found myself today while scrolling through photos from 2020. :)
And we all remember that year. Life was lifing, the world felt uncertain, and everyone was doing their best to get through it. But, looking back at those photos now, I can see how much that season affected not just how I lived, but how I showed up for myself.
As I scrolled, I came across an old blog post I had written during that time. The title immediately made me pause Moo, I Am a Cow. At first, I laughed, but as I read it more carefully, I realized it wasn’t written as a joke. It came from a place of trying to feel better, to feel like myself again, even if only in small ways of getting dressed.
During that period in 2020, I spent more time in my closet than usual, playing around with clothes that felt comfortable but still made me feel presentable. Masks were part of everyday life, and getting dressed became one of the few ways I could express myself. That experiment eventually turned into one of my very first blog entries, and this is what it said.

Moo. I am a cow, and I offer no apologies for saying such a thing. This was a real post. :)
It took me most of the year to find a black-and-white dress that looked cute on me. I’ve never been one to follow trends because I am not trying to be style or fashion, but I do enjoy finding pieces that are wearable, simple, and still feel put together. When I found this dress, I knew it was something I would actually wear again and again. Although, I have since ripped it up and used it as scraps to create a Funky Grunge Denim Bag.
Nonetheless, the dress in my photos came from Target. It was comfortable, easy to slip on, and quite versatile. I could style it in several ways, and I’ve always believed in re-wearing clothes instead of letting them sit in the closet.
Although,I’m not a fashion expert, what I have learned, is how to work with what I already own until I feel good with how I look. Dressing myself wasn’t always easy, especially in my late forties and early fifties, but over time I stopped worrying so much about what others might think. I believe women should wear what feels right for them.
This dress could be paired with dark or white shoes, a denim jacket, or a leather jacket. I added simple black earrings and layered pearls, and the look came together funky and fly. One dress like this can easily be worn in many different ways.
Looking Back Now
Reading this post today gave me a different perspective on my style and the way I dress today. I don’t take my style as seriously as I once did, and that feels like progress to me. The clothes I choose now reflect where I am in life, and I’m learning to be okay with that. Building a wardrobe can be expensive, but building something that feels true to me to me is far more meaningful.
There was a time when leggings and T-shirts were all I wore. And don’t get me wrong that is ok if that’s what a woman wants to wear.
But, as for me: they became my everyday uniform for work, running errands, and even at the salon.
And being a hairstylist, my job every day was to help women feel better about themselves, yet I wasn’t doing the same for myself. But, over time, I realized that needed to change.
Now, when I get dressed, I try to be more intentional with the clothing pieces I pick out.
If you see outfits that I post seem a little unexpected, they come from a place of growth and self-awareness of who I am. Many of us put ourselves last, even when it comes to something as simple as getting dressed. This post is a reminder of where I started and how far I’ve come.
And, there you have it a true throwback moment. And I wanted to share that with you guys.
