39 years ago, it was a cold and bleak day in Port Huron, Michigan. It was also the last day of operations for the Port Huron and Detroit Railroad. In this image, the 60 is about to cross M29 and switch Diamond Crystal for the last time - pulling 5 loads and spotting 4 empties. Chrysler and Prestolite would be worked on the trip north. Morton Salt didn't get a switch that day.
With the exception of one gentleman photographing the train on the wye by the office, I don't know that anyone else was photographing that day. I didn't see anyone else in St. Clair, and the light was gone by the time they finished here. This may be one of the last images of the PH&D.
I have been told that the Alcos were used by the C&O for a period of time, so while it might have looked like the PH&D after this day, it wasn't the PH&D...
I looked at Google Earth as I was creating this post. With the exception Diamond Crystal in the far background, the buildings at left are gone, as is the former station to the right of the 60. The yard is gone as well, just two tracks remain and there's a "new" parking lot for the boat docks.
Sic transit gloria.
