I had two guitars from Brian Seese (of The Redlines) on my bench to change the strings and check the intonation in order to get these ready for a recording session The Oxide Shed next week.
The first was a Fender Starcaster which was pretty simple. All I had to do was change the strings and raise the action a little to stop some fret buzz.
His other guitar is a Fender Telecaster with locking tuners which are new to me.
See, I've been playing bass for over 25 years and have dabbled in working on guitars but for the most part, guitar repair is fairly new hobby for me. I'm still learning things and often getting my first experience with things that the pros probably saw on their first day.
Needless to say it did not go well. I broke 3 strings in the process but managed to save 1 as it snapped in a spot where it could go back in the tuning machine.
Unfortunately I didn't have any backup strings so looks like I'll need to rush another order from SIT Strings.
It's a bit frustrating but I think I have a better feel for it now and will be better prepared for the next time. No shame in admitting failure because failure, as they say, is the mother of success.
