First off, a big THANK YOU to all of our customers who have supported Copacetic in the shop and online through this difficult year. And also, of course, to all the creators, publishers, distributors and delivery services who brought us all this year’s great comics, which have been a real inspiration.

>

Going forward, PLEASE NOTE: the shop will be OPEN through Wednesday, December 23, from 11:00am to 5:00pm. During this period we strongly recommend appointments to all planning on visiting the shop in person, as there continues to be a limit of three customers in the shop at any one time. Also, as of now, all visits to the shop are limited to a maximum of 30 minutes, with 15-20 minutes being the recommendation; this includes appointments.

>

Secondly, after Christmas, the shop will be CLOSED TO WALK-IN CUSTOMERS through – at least – the end of February 2021. Visiting the shop during this period will REQUIRE making an advance appointment. The shop will NOT be maintaining a fixed schedule during this period, but will instead be keeping hours determined by a proprietary algorithm the inputs of which are: the requirements of internet order fulfillment; delivery acceptance; appointment load; meteorological data; and Covid-19 case rates. Should Covid-19 case rates spike further upwards from the current already elevated rates, then no appointments will be granted. Indeed, all non-essential businesses in Allegheny County may, over the coming months, again be ordered closed to the public, as they were early on in the pandemic. Also, it is worth pointing out here that, given the likely erratic hours of shop occupancy post-Christmas, going forward the preferred mode of appointment-making will be email. Please use [email protected] and include the word “Appointment” in the subject.

>

The same, current restrictions will continue to remain in place throughout this period:

1) Masks are required to be worn in the shop at all times.

2) Complimentary medical gloves and hand-sanitizer are provided upon entry to the shop. One or the other – or both, if you prefer – is required to be employed by customers before handling any merchandise.

3) There is a limit of three customers in the shop at any one time.

And, of course, The Copacetic Comics Company will remain ever-accessible online at copaceticcomics.com .

And here's wishing everyone a Solacing Solstice, a Copacetic Christmas and a Happy New Year!

FYI: TONIGHT, at 7:00pm, a free streaming screening of this important made-in-Pittsburgh documentary film. Pittsburgh-based independent filmmaker, Tony Buba collaborated with Ray Henderson, a former mill worker, to tell the true story of the African-American contribution to the steel industry, and to the labor movement itself. Through living witness testimony and revelatory archival footage, Struggles in Steel: A Story of African-American Steel Workers documents the shameful history of discrimination against black workers, and their fight for equality on the job.

Filmmakers Tony Buba and Wayne Gaines will be live (from home) after the screening to talk about the film and answer audience questions.

THIS IS A FREE EVENT (but donations are accepted, all of which will go to the Braddock Carnegie Library.

“Racial inequity is a problem of bad policy, not bad people.”
—Ibram X. Kendi, How to Be an Antiracist

It's been a devastating week here in the USA. On top of the unnerving daily anxieties we are all living through with the Covid-19 pandemic – which have been compounded by the failure of the federal government to treat the crisis with the attention and focus it clearly merits, leading to a chaotic, poorly coordinated response – we as a nation must once again confront the horrific consequences of our failure to address the gross underlying inequalities in how our people are valued and treated as a result of perceived differences that have been constructed by the dominant culture with the primary purpose of maintaining power. These constructions of difference must be deconstructed to reveal their largely fictional, imaginary and false bases. We can do this, we can change. We are all Americans, and, ultimately, we are all inhabitants of the one and only planet that will have us. We are all in this together.

Status Update: Shop CLOSED • Internet Ordering CLOSED

Due to the Governor of Pennsylvania’s just-issued "Stay at Home" Order –

https://www.governor.pa.gov/newsroom/governor-wolf-and-health-secretary-issue-stay-at-home-orders-to-7-counties-to-mitigate-spread-of-covid-19/

– in addition to the physical store at 3138 needing to remain CLOSED, Copacetic now must also cease our internet sales. SORRY! This order is in effect until at least Monday, April 6.

Thanks to all who placed orders during our first week of internet only sales. It is appreciated! We’ll let you once we learn when we will be able to resume internet sales and/or reopen the shop. Until then, thanks for keeping it Copacetic!

We hope everyone takes all the recommended precautions. Here’s the Harvard Medical School Coronavirus Resource Center:

Take care.

Governor Tom Wolf and Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine today issued “Stay at Home” orders to Allegheny, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Monroe, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties, as the state seeks relief to save lives and stop the spread of COVID-19.

STATUS UPDATE - Shop CLOSED • Site OPEN

As both the Pennsylvania State and Allegheny County governments have “strongly urged” all “non-essential” businesses to “close voluntarily” for – at least – the next 14 days, we have decided to comply with these requests and close our shop at 3138 Dobson Street, third floor effective today, Monday, March 16 (as much as it may pain us to acknowledge that Copacetic is “non-essential”). HOWEVER, we will be keeping our mail-order operations active and will continue accepting internet orders. Given the situation, we will also be stepping up the number of new listings on our site ( link in "ABOUT" ).

Looking for something you think we may have, but don’t see it on the site? Just email us and ask. We will let you know whether or not it’s in stock, and, if so, we can then send you a custom PayPal invoice (which can be paid for using a credit card; PayPal account not required). We hope everyone takes all the recommended precautions.

Here’s the CDC page:

Take care.
