White Whale Books & Coffee Conversation, community, and culture. A home for book lovers. Open daily, 10am-7pm! We are a family-owned, general interest independent bookstore in Pittsburgh.

Our selection of new books includes a broad range of contemporary and literary fiction and nonfiction, poetry, history, philosophy, local authors, independent presses, children’s books, and much more. If we don’t have a book in stock, we are happy to order it. White Whale Bookstore aims to be a community hub—a place for engagement, conversation, and sharing ideas. We host author readings, poetry n

ights, writing workshops, book clubs, children’s story hour, school visits, and anything else that sounds like a good fit for our space. At the moment, our calendar is packed with virtual offerings. We support the general strike in protest of ICE and DHS brutality, and we stand behind our staff and customers who choose not to work and shop on 1.30.26. Our small business has taken a big hit this week due to weather closures, so in order to keep supporting our community, White Whale will remain open on 1.30 with limited staff and hours (11a-5:30p). This week, we’re donating all proceeds from our Current Events & Resources list on our website (also displayed in-store) to the Collaborative for Immigrant Impact Fund, a group of 18 nonprofits working to defend the international community in PGH. Be a good neighbor. Call your reps and tell them to abolish ICE.

1/28 Update! Due to frigid temps, unplowed roads, and impassable sidewalks, White Whale will continue to have limited hours. Weds-Fri we will be open 11a-5:30p.

SPLASHH is canceled tonight, but if you want to trudge over with friends and read quietly together before we close, you are absolutely welcome.
