Took a ride to Colebrook. The river is up into ALL the low spots. From Indian Stream south it is up to the top of the banks and the color of a Dunkin’s regular, two creams. Murphy is at 400cfs- fishable but high. 1st dam is at 300 cfs - high, fishable, watch where you wade. The forecast is for rain off and on for the next ten days.
My son, grandson, and another four are tent camping for the weekend. Everybody caught fish yesterday with a couple nice salmon.

Back from my trip to the West Branch of the Delaware. Beautiful River. Finding bugs was the main problem. We didn’t see the large hatches the river is supposed to be famous for, so it was hard to locate the fish. Blind casting small nymphs was not very productive. Our last night we did find a small sulfur hatch. I got a nice 19-20 inch fish on a #16 CDC sulfur cripple I’ve been working on after nymphs, SH, duns, and spent failed.
I booked for next year and hope for better bugs.

Well, aside from evening thunder showers the week in Hancock looks pretty good …..so far. I
have to make an early dump run before I leave, but looks like Baby Jesus be lookin’ out for the old folk. Let’s hope my luck holds a bit longer.
I’ll be back in a week.

10 days ago the weather forecast was calling for 2” of rain from Sunday into Tuesday in Hancock. That may have been a problem for someone wanting to fish dry flies. Over the last week the rain amount and timing has shifted. Today we are looking at around +\- .25”, most on Saturday. THAT is real good news.

I’m getting wound up now with three days to the GO ! My first loaf of bread is proofing and will get baked today. The second loaf is started and will get finished tomorrow. My clothes are packed and ready for the car. My wife has our new cooler down below and it’s a bit bigger than the old one. I can’t really pack until I get that, BUT I can get ready to pack.

Well, the car is ready to be packed. I will be making some bread, two loaves, to bring. I make a decent loaf, so I tell me. And I just got information about a fly on the water and have the material on the bench........
Time to get to work.

Bourbon tasting alert! A friend, a very good friend, understanding my research into bourbon and the perfect ice cube, gifted me a bottle of New Riff bourbon. Apparently this is a relatively new product that is available in 4 flavors - one at 86 proof, one bottled in bond 100 proof ( the one I was gifted), a single barrel barrel strength (126 proof), and a rye. I am into the single barrel today. The prices for the bourbons run $50, 60, 70. The 2 I have tried are very good and well made.
My tasting protocol is - 4 cubes of ice, pour enough bourbon to just float the cubes, take a full sip before the sample gets too cold. Then take other sips to suit my fancy.
I have to tell you that both the 100 proof and the 126 proof are some freakin’ smoothe!! I mean really smoothe. First taste is roasted nuts and Carmel with vanilla. The Carmel taste hangs on all the way to the end of the sample. They both stand up to ice very well. These both move to the head of the class. For me, I may not be able to afford these as an every day bourbon, but I plan to have some always in the cabinet for special occasions - like sitting on the deck on a beautiful day.
