Doing something different... but important.

We had the privilege of meeting a man from Uganda who came to our home and sat around our fire pit with us. He came to the US years ago and got a degree in Psychology and planned on staying here. But he said he felt God was calling him back home so he listened.
He told us that, in Uganda, girls are considered almost useless to a family. They are burdens and, when they reach ages around 10 or 11 years old, they are sold off to grown men who want to buy them. It's illegal but he says the government doesn't do anything about it. But they allow him to.
On his own dollar, he has saved and houses 75 rescued children with his staff of 15. He teaches there and uses his own money to house, feed and teach all of these children. Recently he has bought an acre of land and planted beans in hopes that will help feed them as they only eat once per day. Some of these girls are planning and getting ready to go to college, some to be nurses, one a doctor and another a lawyer.

Another issue there is that he said sanitary products for young girls costs around $8 per month. But a father can feed a family of 10 for that much. So they choose to feed the 10 and the girls drop out of school around the age of needing such products. This man has developed a washable, reusable sanitary product for these girls. And he's hired young prostitutes (if I understand correctly) to stop prostitution and sew these items for him. This also teaches them the skill of sewing so that, even if they leave him, they now have a skill and maybe wont return to the street.

He said that it takes $1000, US money, to feed the 75 girls and his staff of 15 for a month. $1000 to feed 90 people for a month. He admitted later on in the evening that his own funds were drained pretty low and that he was looking for help because he is in the process of building his own school there and the government has given him a deadline for completion of the first floor. He came to the US to look for anyone who could send any small amount to help him feed these girls and so that he can continue to rescue them from the grown men who buy them.

IF any of you would like to contribute in any way, let us know. Send us a message and we will show you how to look at his information. Thank you so much for your time reading this long post.

I want to share with you all, the struggle we go through to make sure you get the best candy...
Yesterday, I was making Honey Bits and the bottom tray had one that looked a little darker than some of the others. So, selflessly, I ate it myself, knowing it was the only way to make sure it was of equal quality.

It was good but it made me wonder... "If I doubted that one's perfection, what if there are others?" So, without a single thought for myself, I ate one from the other side of that tray as well... then one off of both ends of the second tray and third and so on.

I know it sounds heroic and utterly selfless but that's not what I'm going for here. I just wanted you all to know that we are willing to go to such lengths to make sure your product is of top notch quality every time.

Please don't feel bad for us... just remember, we signed up for this.

A Delicious Disaster:

Last night, I pulled a batch of this Lemon Creme, a candy that tastes so much like Lemon Pie that we'll probably make it a permanent addition to our menu. I put it in a storage tub to await being bagged and then, just a bit later...

I bumped it, knocked it off the shelf, and sent half of the batch scattering across the floor.

After staring for a while at the mess and loss of inventory, we cleaned it up and did our best to carry on with the evening.

Still... it's hear. It's ready, though limited until we can make more. Message us if you're interested. It truly is a delicious change of pace from some of the more common flavors.

Did you know that most places charge around $3 per ounce for these freeze dried candies? Not us though. Our bags are full and weigh approximately 9 ounces which would put them at $27 per bag if we followed the standard.

But don't worry... we sell our bags for $10 each. And you can either get them from out website or pick them up directly from us to avoid shipping.

Ready to take a look and see what else we have too?

The Dumbest Thing I Ever Did While Freeze Drying:

The season for Candy Corn was upon us. I prepped the trays and got them all out to the freeze dryers. I set the temps and waited the 15 minutes for the system to cool down. I set the tray warmers to warm for 45 minutes before pulling a vacuum... I made sure the door seals properly vacuum sealed before leaving to let the process work.

5 hours later, I returned to harvest our bounty, to pull this fresh batch of candy to start bagging it up. On my way to the dryers, I saw this candy corn on a table, spread out across a tray. I thought to myself "I wonder who left that there."

Want to know who left it there? I did...

Want to know what I freeze dried? Nothing. And it came out light and airy.

Of all the things to leave out of the process, the candy sure seemed to be a no brainer. But there it was, untouched in the trays that I never loaded while setting all of the specifications.

Oh well... be sure to check out our website lol: Everfreshvalley.com

One of the worst "Auto-Correct" moments I've ever had was due to this product. And it's happened at least 3 times. Imagine this:

A customer asks for recommendations and you say "Do you like Bit O Hiney?"

Now... I thought, at first, that maybe I hit the wrong letter... But no. The other times I literally watched the "o" change to an "i" while typing it.

Dear Auto Correct: "Honey" is a real word and a common one at that.

If you'd like to try our Honey Bits, the source of this embarrassment,
Check the first comment!

You'll have to shop elsewhere for the other thing. 😃
