📖 DID YOU KNOW?

There was a time when getting an English Bible into England could mean smuggling it into the country in secret.

William Tyndale believed ordinary people should be able to read God's Word in their own language. His English New Testaments were printed on the European continent and secretly brought into England—sometimes concealed among ordinary merchandise.

Why was an English Bible considered so dangerous? And how did Tyndale's work help change the history of the Bible forever?

📜 DO YOU KNOW WHAT “BIBLE” THE APOSTLE PAUL READ?

When Paul preached, taught, and wrote the letters that became part of our New Testament, the Bible as we know it today had not yet been assembled.

Paul knew the Hebrew Scriptures and frequently quoted from the Septuagint (LXX)—the ancient Greek translation of the Old Testament widely used in the first-century world.

But how did those Scriptures travel from ancient Hebrew manuscripts to Greek, Latin, English…and eventually to the Bible you hold today?

JOHN 1:1

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Before creation, before history, before us—the Word was there. Begin today remembering that Jesus is not simply part of the story. He is at the center of it.

Before the printing press, books were copied by hand—slowly, carefully, and at great expense. Then Johannes Gutenberg helped change the way information could be shared forever.

At the Tennessee Bible Museum, you can step into the story of the Gutenberg Press and see our 1/2-scale working model of a Gutenberg-style printing press on display.

Discover how movable-type printing helped make books—and eventually the Bible—available to more people than ever before.

For Today:
God Is Not Mocked
6 Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. 7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. 10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. 11 Ye see how large a letter I have written unto you with mine own hand. Galatians 6:6-11

For Today:
Let Every Man Prove His Own Work
1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. 2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. 3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. 4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. 5 For every man shall bear his own burden. Galatians 6:1-5

For Today:
The Works Of The Flesh vs The Fruit Of The Spirit
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. Galatians 5:19-26
