Rhombicuboctahedron is my latest puzzle shape. It can also be assembled as an elongated square gyrobicupola by rotating a group of nine pieces 45 degrees. Not sure how difficult it is. It can easily be assembled once you know it.

Righty loosey lefty tighty fidget bolts. Would make a fantastically annoying gift for that mechanically inclined person in your life. I'll have them for sale this weekend at Destination Pierceton along with a full selection of puzzles.

Burning the pentagons is a success. I just have to adjust the peg fit a little and then build about 10 more

50 rhombic dodecahedrons is a decent production run. Most of them are ailanthus wood from a tree I cut down in my backyard. Its an invasive species so I figured it should go. A log 12 inches at the base and 8 feet long made 40 puzzles. The rest of the puzzles from this run are either cherry or walnut and cherry. Each species or combination has a different layout giving them different difficulties and different strategies to solve them.
The peg layout for the ailanthus is a new one that I drew for this run. I thought it would be a 1 solution puzzle but I've found 3 solutions for it having solved it 6 times. I suppose I could calculate the chances that it has a 4th solution that I haven't stumbled on yet. It seldom gets down to 1 or 2 pieces left which is more typical of a 1 solution puzzle so I think its just luck that I came up with a layout with multiple solutions. Someday when I feel like making rhombic dodecs again, I'll draw yet another random layout in hopes of it having 1 solution and being 3 times harder.
The peg layout for the cherry puzzles is designed to have so many solutions that its easy to stumble on one. There's also a strategy that greatly increases the chances of solving it.
The peg layout for the walnut and cherry has one solution and it can be found by lots of trial and error but its cooler to figure out the strategy.

All set up at the YLNI Farmers Market until 1 pm with a new display shelf.
