Imperial Outpost Games is very saddened to let all of our store family know that Jeff Smith, The Old Wolf, has passed away.

I learned game retailing from him, and much of my successes can be attributed to him. In recent hears, he even came back and worked at IOG, and was a fixture in our Painting Academy. He was a dedicated hobbyist, retailer and professional. but more than that...he was a best friend. My best friend. I'll never forget him, and the hole in my heart is sizable.

Rest well, Old Wolf...until we meet again in the Wolftime.

Though we can't ya'll to come in and support us this Saturday for Game Store Day, we ask that you do stop in at your local FLGS and give them some support. It means a lot.

Also...because I have been asked several times. No. Imperial Outpost has not re-opened or is associated with any other store in the Valley currently using the word 'outpost'. Game Outpost is not Outpost Games rebranded not, and TGG's Mesa Outpost isn't us either. Just so that there's no confusion.

It's official. Imperial Outpost Games has left the building.

Today we finished vacating for good, and turned over the keys. The walls still resonate with the echos of laughter, joy and camaraderie. And though we may no longer bask in that in person, those memories and feelings will never die as long as we keep them in our hearts.

It truly has been an honor being a part of the gaming community in this valley for so long. Only Game Depot had a longer tenure than we, and we're proud to be included in the august (and very small) body of stores who have lasted for decades.

Plenty of mistakes were made along the way. I surely won't deny that. Sometimes we didn't live up to our responsibility and promises. Sometimes we just didn't do our best. Businesses, like people, err and err often. We are no different. But, for the most part we tried, and tried hard,to give people a welcoming place to buy games and to play them. We never wanted to be some glitzy, shallow experience. We left (and leave) others to try to baffle and bedazzle people with bu****it.

We have heard from many people wondering where to go now that we are closed. We can offer the following suggestions of stores in the West and North Valley who we feel run their businesses ethically, honestly, and genuinely. Give them a check out.

( I honestly don't know much about the stores farther in the SE part of the valley, so can offer no opinions about stores in those reaches)

It is our hope that gaming in the valley continues to thrive and grow, and that good, decent stores are at the center of it.

We have a couple of TVs available. They’re 55” 1080p tv’s. Don’t have the stands for them but both do come with a wall mount bracket. $40 each.

The time is almost upon us to close the doors for the last time. For the last dice to be rolled, the last figure moved, and the last meeple placed.

This sunday, the 31st, will be our last day of operation, after serving the greater Phoenix gaming community for 27 years.

What a nearly three decades it's been. From all of the highs and lows, the triumphs and travails, mistakes and successes, it's all brought us to this point.

There is no way I could possibly thank everyone individually who has been a part of our story over these 27 years.

But to those who were my dear employees, I thank you for putting up with my...eccentricities and helping to keep me focused even when I wasn't.

To those who ever ran an event here, I thank you for your time and effort and unwavering support of a game you loved. Every event ran was a testament to the love of a game and the love of building a community.

To those who ever played in any game here. Your mirth, laughter and joy was the beating heart of this store. Listening to the game room filled with people having a fun time is a sound that I will sit back and remember with a satisfied smile on my face. Thank you for that memory. I will cherish it forever.

To those who ever shopped here. Thank you so much for trusting us to help you find a game, figure or even set of dice. We truly loved seeing people pick up a game and then come in and tell us how much they enjoyed it. We hope that we were able to bring some happiness and joy into your lives.

Though we don't have any more terrain, or gaming mats, our tables will be available all weekend long for one last gaming hurrah. Bring down your favorite game and get in one last session...one last turn...one last combat round.

A huge selection of our gaming terrain will be made available for purchase starting on Aug 23!

Terrain is divided into lots ( though some individual pieces are available) with 2 tags on each lot. When you come in and find a lot or piece you like, take one of the tags to the front counter to pay for the terrain. Once paid for you can take the terrain with you.

Some of our terrain has its own totes and bins but most does not, so if you are thinking of picking up a good selection, bring your own bins, totes and boxes.

We have a little bit more to put out that isn’t yet in these photos but I wanted folks to get an idea of the selection.

In order to get ready for our big terrain sale on the 23rd, the game room will be closed on the 20th, 21st and 22nd, so we can sort, organize, and do a few repairs on our terrain.
