Today is World Mental Health Day.
We believe mental health and well-being is a universal human right. Although, for so many, there is still a stigma and a lack of resources even though 1 in 5 of us (American adults) live with mental illness.
The day was created to raise awareness of mental health issues. But let’s be honest… one day is not enough.
Every day is a day to address mental health issues and destigmatize the struggle that so many people experience (us included). So how do we do this?
We start by raising our hands✋🏼✋🏾✋🏿
& raising our voices 📣
“I have a mental illness”
“I am working on my mental health”
“I am feeling X today”
“I prioritize my mind and body health”
“I am looking for mental health resources. Can you help me?”
For anyone who may feel alone… for anyone who may feel shame… for anyone who is frustrated or scared…
…Allow us to shout it from the rooftops… “We are struggling too!”
We struggle with high anxiety and panic attacks 🤯😬😵💫
We struggle with burn-out and severe depression 😴😔
But we also are grateful to experience times of joy 😊
We are open about mental health diagnoses because it takes rigorous honesty for change. It takes truth for recovery. In fact, our organization was founded on basis of healing from the mental health struggle with ADHD, panic attacks, anxiety, severe depression, severe trauma and burn-out that our founder experienced. This is why we champion mental health efforts and the core tenants of our experiences are Compassion, Connection, Awareness, and Appreciation.
While we are trying to improve the lives of those who attend our experiences, we understand that there is no one size fits all solution. We also understand that mental health and the healing process is a journey, not a destination.
But if you’ve read this far, the most important message is this…
You are not alone.
There is support.
It does get better.
