The Los Arcos Mall Scottsdale 1998.
Los Arcos Mall was an enclosed shopping mall on the southeast corner of Scottsdale and McDowell roads in Scottsdale, Arizona. The mall, which operated from 1969 to 1999, featured a Spanish architectural motif and took its name from "The Arches" in Spanish. In the 1990s, the mall lost shoppers and both of its anchors, particularly to the Scottsdale Fashion Square center, which was closer to population growth in the city. The last anchor, Sears, left Los Arcos for Fashion Square in February 1999.

After construction began in October 1968, Los Arcos Mall opened formally on November 21, 1969, though two of its anchor stores—Sears and Broadway-Hale Stores—opened on October 20. When the mall formally opened, just 30 of the 70 inline tenants were open for business. The mall featured a Spanish interior design by the Los Angeles architectural firm of Burke, Kober, Nicolais and Archuleta, with murals of Native Americans painted by Mexican artist José María Servín and a gazebo made in Mexico City as major design features. The Broadway store was designed by Charles Luckman.

A view of the Arizona State Fair on October 21, 1978.

The Arizona State Fair is an annual state fair, held at Arizona State Fairgrounds. It was first held in 1884, but has had various interruptions due to cotton crop failure, the Great Depression era, World War I & World War II years & the COVID-19 pandemic. From 1946 to 2019 and resuming in 2021, the fair has been held annually. It was a territory fair before Arizona was a state.

The Arizona Exposition and State Fair (official name) is a self-supporting state agency, and receives no money from the state's General Fund. The fairgrounds serve as a host facility for a number of different tradeshows, events, and entertainment. The fairgrounds is the location for the Maricopa County Fair, the Arizona National Livestock Show, the Maricopa Home and Garden Show, and more.

The Fair typically has around 75 amusement rides, 110 food booths, and 300 commercial sales booths. The Arizona State Fair is one of the top 5 state fairs by yearly attendance in the country, drawing over a million visitors annually.

Robert F. Kennedy campaigns at Christown Mall in Phoenix, Arizona.
Christown Mall was originally named after the farmer, Chris Harri, who sold a large portion of his farmland to the mall's developer, Del Webb in the late 1950s.
Construction was completed in mid-1961. Chris-Town Mall opened with much fanfare on August 24, advertised as the first indoor mall in Arizona. Another first for an Arizona mall was the air-conditioned interior, which may have led to competing Maryvale Mall converting to an indoor mall to stay competitive. The mall's original anchors included Montgomery Ward, JCPenney, and the first branch of the Downtown Phoenix department store Korricks. Other major tenants included S. S. Kresge, & Woolworth. Themed Courtyards served as focal points in front of each of the three major department stores. The main courtyard at the center entrance that buffered JCPenney was named the Court of Fountains; another named the Court of Flowers ended the east wing near Korrick's, and the Montgomery Wards opened to the final one, named the Court of Birds, in the west wing.

1985 Smitty's Grocery Store TV Commercial
Smitty's was a local grocery store chain founded by Clyde Smith that operated stores in Arizona from 1964 until 1999. Early stores carried the Smitty's Big Town name; certain locations also operated under the Xtra name toward the end of the chain's existence. Smitty's was purchased by Smith's Food and Drug in 1996, who continued to operate the stores under the Smitty's banner. The purchase of Smith's by Fred Meyer in 1997 caused the majority of Smitty's stores to be rebranded Smitty's Marketplace. Smitty's locations were unique in that they included grocery and non-grocery items of various types under the same roof as well as food service, years before the advent of discount chains, warehouse clubs, or supercenters such as Wal*Mart.
