Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Were You There? ( #1206 LDS)
Hymns for Home and Church

This hymn causes me to reflect on the 12 Legions of Angels who stood at the ready. Straining in their armor, totally focused on the slightest command from Jesus to attack, defend, rescue .... But Jesus went through the Garden of Gethsemane and then the scourging (which often killed strong men, all by itself) and then hung on the cross in agony for 6 hours, and yet Jesus told Peter to put up his drawn and bloody sword, and Jesus never gave the angels the command to strike.
You might say what power would an angel have? Remember it was one angel who destoryed an entire Assyrian Army in one night. It was one angel who killed all the first born of Egypt in one night. Jesus had 12 legions, that is 72,000 of these warriors, totally focused waiting only for ... the command to strike. Instead they had to stand frustratingly as idle witnesses to the worlds greatest injustice. The most cruel crucifiction of: the only perfect soul the world has ever seen.
Well did Jesus quote the first line of the 22 Psalms, in which King David describes the crucification 1,000 years before it was invented by the Romans. The 22 Psalms is hair raising, but ends with Jesus as Lord. For the Kingdom is the Lord's and he is the governor amongst the nations. Psalms22:28 LDS King James Bible
The final verse of the hymn is victorious:
Were you there when he rose up from the Dead?
Were you there when he rose up from the Dead.
Oh! Sometimes I feel like shouting Glory! Glory! Glory!
Were you there when He rose up from the dead?
Seems to me, we were all there in the spirit and/or were able to view the most important event in the history of the world. For me the veil seems thin at times, and I can almost remember it. Then, what I call, tears of Allah flow for me. Tears for the injustice, tears for the suffering, tears for the gratitude that Jesus would do that for You. And he would have done it all just for You, if need be; that is the character of our Eldest Brother Jesus, the Christ the Messiah and the Greatest Prophet this world has ever seen.
In a 2003 NDE I had the opportunity to speak to Jesus. He is as described in the scriptures a glorified, resurrected, being of flesh and bone that emanates white light, whiter than any white found on Earth, a light brighter than the sun and yet it did not hurt my eyes. My biggest take-away? The love he had for me and you was immense as an ocean. An ocean whose gentle warm waves lapped over you as you stood in the surf. Immense and unmeasurable love.
Jesus is coming back to rule on Earth as in Heaven. “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:10 (KJV) ... that part of the Lord's Prayer will be fulfilled soon.
How soon? No one knows save perhaps the Prophets. “Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.” Amos3:7.
There are 19 Prophets over the Earth today. 15 LDS, the 3 Nephite Apostles, and John the Beloved. The Quran even mentions this in Quran74:30. Over it are Nineteen. 31. We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire ...
And where is the Fire? It is right here. Some say it is Hell, and well might it be, for Satan is in Hell, and Satan and his followers were cast down to the Earth. Which Earth? This Earth. So in that sense, this Earth is a Hell for some, and a glorious schoolhouse for all at the same time.
Thanks for listening to an old man's ramblings of those things closest to my heart.
