The Studer A810 is a highly capable, flexible, and compact analog tape machine that is a workhorse of archivists and a favorite of audiophiles. Dan is currently preparing several A810s and Revox PR99 mkIIs for sale in Q1 2024 - preparations include complete electrolytic and suppression capacitor replacement, new bearings throughout, new trimpots (PR99), backup battery replacement, calibration, and alignment. Many other makes and model tape machines available, including Studer, Ampex, Otari, Nagra, and 3M.

Beautiful C37 equipped with 1/2” Flux Magnetics heads that is inbound from Australia for servicing . This C37 is a world-traveler, having been imported from Europe to the US decades ago, converted to 1/2” by JRF Magnetics and subsequently sold to a buyer in Australia. It will be back here in the states soon.

This super-clean Studer A81 just arrived from Germany. It should look familiar to most because it’s the oxide-out (aka b-wind) version of the A80RC. It’s identical in every way with the exception of the headblock and tape orientation. It shares all audio and transport cards with its brother the A80RC. These were sold without trolleys and meter bridges, so a custom cabinet and meter panel will be fabricated.

This is the "Harvey Mod" time code Nagra IV-S, designated the X4S. Developed by Time Code Systems (Harvey Warnke / Andy Wiskes), this implementation of time code was thought in its day to be superior than Nagra's own factory TC with features that included a much easier to read TC display as well as the ability to switch between pilotone and TC without swapping internal boards. This example works beautifully and looks great for its age and history.

Otari MX5050 BIII-2 - The quintessential workhorse compact professional tape machine. It’s not sexy like a Studer, Nagra, or Ampex ATR, but it’s highly reliable and does its job quite well. It’s the Toyota Camry of tape decks.

If you archive / digitize tape for a living, this machine is likely in your arsenal. If not, it should be.

PS. It’s a great studio mixdown deck, too.
