Jason is the Owner, Creator & Designer
behind Knotty Concepts. He is a self-taught woodworker with a passion for quality, perfection and hand-crafted wooden designs. "Through every inspiration, he channels his passion and love of woodworking and the raw beauty of natural and reclaimed wood to ensure flawless...or charmingly flawed creations." Knotty Concepts developed out of a sincere, but casual

interest in creating elaborate designs from reclaimed, natural and precious woods found around the states. It is important to the brand that every creation, regardless of the size, speaks to people and becomes a conversation piece that everyone will love for years to come. I want every creation to elicit wows and wonder from everyone who sees it as each one is truly a work of art.

Hello all!!! I have recently entered Knotty Concepts in a contest to win a business grant through FedEx. I will be retiring this year after 23 years of active duty service in the U.S. Navy and am looking forward to pursuing my own business in wood craftsmanship and take this passion to the next level. I am urging you to kindly vote once per day (or more if you have more than one email address) for the duration of the contest.

Please forward this message to your friends and spread the word! Thank you for supporting a veteran owned small business.

I get asked quite often how I make a barn door, the type of joinery I use , how I put them together and sometimes people ask to see the project as it progresses. So, I thought I'd take a few pictures from start to finish, beginning with the raw lumber and taking you through the final look of the project. This particular door's frame is 1 1/2" thick Poplar with Pine T&G used for the skin, and a decorative "X" in the middle. Once the customer makes the final decision about the color/finish for their door, I'll paint/stain the door and apply 3 coats of polyurethane. Then I'll go to their home and install/hang their new sliding barn door.

It has been awhile since I have posted anything, so I thought I would update everyone on what I am currently working on. I was commissioned to redo a bathroom in a weathered/rustic look. I installed brand new wood-plank vinyl flooring and a brand new toilet. I used lots of pallet wood as a unique feature for the back wall. The double sink vanity base is made from 4x4s and tongue/groove material; I also built the vanity doors from pallet wood that I had left over from the back wall feature. I used a dark grey stain as the base color and then went over top of that with an exterior white latex paint. Once all of the paint dried; I lightly sanded all of it to achieve a "weathered" look. The vanity top was made from 1 1/2" Ash wood (not shown), a very dense and heavy material, which was also stained grey. Once I cut the holes for the sinks (I will be using galvanized buckets for these) and the faucets (exposed galvanized piping for these) I will post those pics as well. That is it for now; I will post more updates as I continue on with this job until it is complete, which hopefully should not be too much longer. Thanks for following!!

I surprised my beautiful wife with an early wedding anniversary gift this morning (17 years next month!!) for the 17th wedding anniversary you exchanging gifts of furniture (right up my alley!) ..we have company coming over today so I wanted her to be able to use it while we entertain our guests! I built the entire table in only a few days and only needed to order a few items like the caster wheels and some of the hardware, other than that it was all spare wood I had laying around the shop so I put it to good use..I have been promising her a coffee table for a while and now she has a one-of-a-kind!!

So here is the door that I made for my mother-in-law, it's made from Poplar and Pine wood. I built the frame for it first to ensure the door fits perfectly...so after a nice stain and some rustic hardware, it will be ready to be installed...
