FRIENDS! Meet our NEWEST staffer Charlotte!

Charlotte joined us in 2026, bringing an eclectic assortment of experience that includes performing in theatrical productions in New York and across the United States, large-scale event production, working in the corporate world of fintech, and touring nationally as an independent folk artist. A graduate of Northwestern University, she will begin pursuing a Master’s in Arts Administration at Drexel University in Fall 2026.

As a singer-songwriter, Charlotte spends an unreasonable amount of time thinking about how to turn her stories into songs. Working in her favorite bookstore seemed like a natural extension of the obsession: spending her days convincing others that they NEED to read [insert title of her most recent page-turner]. When she’s not on stage or at the bookstore, Charlotte can usually be found doing the daily crossword, planning her next road trip, or being bossed around by her two dogs.

Catch her in the store on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays! ✨

It’s “Friday I’m in Love!” A series we do celebrating the couples who rent out our shop for Date Night! We adore hearing the love stories of the folks who come through our shop. Today we have Amy and Kaleb. Read their story below:

"Back in 2009 I (Amy) was dating someone and broke up. Kaleb reached out to me to convince me to get back together with my ex and give him another chance. After trying to mediate the breakup and handle the drama that was going on we were talking every day over the phone. 6 months after starting to talk on the phone Kaleb came down to meet me in person all the way from the Finger Lakes in New York. I remember telling my mom that weekend “I’m going to marry him”. 6 months after that he moved down to PA and a year after that we got married at only 19&20 years old. We now live in Delaware County with our two sons, a cat, and a dog.

Personality wise we are opposite. He is patient and I’m emotional. I fill his life with excitement. He keeps me balanced and grounded. Even though we got together so young and that has caused a lot of obstacles, we never regret getting together so young.  I feel lucky I have gotten to experience my later teen years with him, that we got explore our twenties, and figure out consistency in our thirties. I’m honored that I got to have his children and watching him be a father makes me love him more and more.

We booked a date night at H&H because as a family with kids date nights are far and few between, we prefer experiences for our dates. We like to do things we had never done before. I am a big reader and love the vibe of bookstores. My husband planned the whole thing and it was honestly perfect. We were able to spend the entire time talking uninterrupted which doesn’t happen at home and even at a restaurant there are other distractions so it was nice to be able to lock in.

It’s “Friday I’m in Love!” A series we do celebrating the couples who rent out our shop for Date Night! We adore hearing the love stories of the folks who come through our shop. Today we have Nick and Amanda. Read their story below:

"Nick and I met on March 14, 2025, in Rittenhouse Square, on the first truly warm Friday afternoon of spring. I had gone out alone with a book, a journal, a cookie, and ice cream, hoping to enjoy the weather. While looking for a place to sit, I spotted an open bench right next to a very cute guy who seemed to be doing almost the same thing. I sat beside him and spent the next half hour quietly hoping he would say something. As the sun dipped lower and the air turned cold, I packed up my things but could not bring myself to leave without trying. A performer in the park had caught his attention, so I turned to him and asked, “Are you a big fan?” That simple question turned into an easy conversation. When I got up to leave, he asked if he could walk with me. By the time we parted ways, he had asked for my number, and two days later we had our first date, a quick coffee that somehow stretched into six hours of wandering the city because neither of us was ready to say goodbye.

Early on, during one of our dates, we received a postcard with our receipt, and I kept it, later using it as his birthday card just weeks after we met. Not long after, I began collecting more postcards and secretly writing to him after every date, trip, and milestone, documenting our time together. This year, for his birthday, I turned those postcards into a book, beginning with that first Andra Hem card and ending with one written a year later. I surprised him with a dinner at The Head and The Hand bookstore, a place that perfectly matched the theme. Nick is one of the most thoughtful, kind, and selfless people I have ever met, someone who makes love feel easy and worth celebrating. Thank you to the head and the hand for helping me make his birthday special!"
