At Tildie’s Toy Box, we aim to provide the Philadelphia community with a fun and inviting place for families to find meaningful gender neutral toys for their children to engage in play. We focus on toys aimed to spark creativity and imagination, discover and explore interests, challenge kids, encourage interactions with family and friends, and of course are fun! 🥳 It’s our 10th Birthday!

10 years ago today I opened the doors in our original South Philly location! I was excited and so scared. After being a stay-at-home-mom for 3 years with 2 preschoolers, the reality of opening hit me all at once. As business owners will tell you, it’s not just opening a business, but staying open that’s the hard part. The daily grind, the ups and downs, the curve balls, the criticism & kind words, the disappointments & wins, take a toll and make you stronger. I made lots of sacrifices to keep these shops, but they also kept me going through a lot of hard times. I battled breast cancer, a pandemic, 3 elections, and tariffs. I opened 4 shops, and closed 2 (RIP POD park & Tiny Tildie’s). I have had amazing employees and some who have really tested me along the way. I’ve had customers, turned friends, and lots of support from my communities. Thank you for all of it!

When I started this journey I was a crazy woman talking about that toys don’t need to be pink or blue, girls can play with blocks and boys with a doll, STEM & art are for all kids, and so on. People rolled their eyes, vendors thought I was weird, and we did make little victories along the way. Now, it’s not so crazy and I don’t even have to mention it much anymore because it’s more prevalent. I’m so happy that we’ve made progress, and we will continue to promote gender neutral toys & hands on play!

Most recently I have loved seeing teens, kidults, parents, & grandparents shopping for themselves in the shops. I love that PLAY is now something that all ages are valuing for themselves and are finding moments of joy.

Today I look back and thank you for 10 amazing & challenging years in Philly, & 5 in Haddonfield! Thank you to my husband for carting around carloads of toys, my kids for understanding when I need to place one more order, my mom for helping with the kids when I first opened, & my sister for jumping in to help wherever needed. Without their support, none of this would be here.

Thank you to past & present Tildie’s Team members for supporting our mission & for being such wonderful humans!
