A quick trip with some dirty 30 drills. Cold was shot with .22lr mkiii and I threw one high. Next was shot with irons and a 1911 .45. Last was shot with my go to hk vp9 match but I shot the 7 yards with my support hand only, 10 yards strong hand only, 15 yards two hands. I threw a few out, that 5.5lb trigger needs or some work.

I’ve been testing reloads and factory ammo to determine which ammo my VP9 Match likes best. I shot groups rested at 25y on the white targets and the syntech 147gr did the best followed by 147gr coated lead with TiteGroup.

I only had my game changer bag with me so there was a bit more human error than I’d like but I can justify a ransom rest yet.

I put those two loads head to head on the black targets, again at 25 yards and the federal came out on top again with 1” 5 shot group and my reload is 1.6 with 3 in one hole.

Last was two handed at 25 with my reload it was a 4” group. I need a lot of work to shoot this gun even close to its potential.

What has been the most accurate 9mm ammunition you’ve fired?

I recently had the pleasure of shooting this absolute masterpiece. An early 70s **tfirearms Gold Cup National Match with faux ivory grips and the most amazing 1911 trigger over ever felt. The trigger is 4lbs and really reminded me of the S&W wide target triggers I’ve been craving. I was amazed to learn the original gold cups had a .35” trigger with a larger channel in the frame, unlike the standard .25” 1911 triggers I’m used to.

I’m not very good with irons these days, I’ve grown extremely dependent on red dots BUT if I had to choose once single pistol and it had to have irons, this would be it.

The only downside that I’ve found, a sharp edge that bites a bit around the safety area while shooting with a high grip. It did originally ship with the c**t collet bushing but professionally installed a Wilson combat bushing and this thing shoots light out!

The blueing, the trigger, the serrated top strap, they don’t make them like they used to.

Every holster I make gets my personal attention. Every cut is contoured to my hand which ensures knuckle and thumb clearance for a consistent grip.

When my buddy hit me up for a railed 1911 OWB competition rig with a dual mag carrier, I knew I had to go all out. He is, after all, the same person who did the awesome coating on my own c**t 1911.

The Rhodesian print from gets better every time I use it. The holster features adjustable retention, safariland fork and the optic/ejection port cut is matched to the pattern. The magazine carrier is molded to fit 2 doublestack magazines but I developed a spacer to secure single stack magazines along with a magazine retention device.

The walk back drill was always a favorite at pistol classes, you have 8 rounds and each impact moves you to the next distance until you run out of ammo. We always estimated the distance past 50y and that was the point I would start holding higher on the steel silhouette. I always wanted to sit down and really look at longer distances POA/POI with a pistol so I started last weekend.

I sand bagged my HK VP9 match for a group at 25y on the bottom right with blazer brass 124gr and I’m zeroed at 25 with 147gr federal syntech.

I moved to 50 and I was surprised the same ammo had close to the same high left POI so after a couple magazines I changed POA to low right and started landing in the bullseye on the left plate. I then shot 5 rounds of federal syntech 150gr which was closer to POA POI at 50y.

Thanks to a new follower I have some more 147 coming from and I’m hoping it’s accurate enough to group as well as federal.

Stay tuned for the next pistol group therapy session!
