Not every neighborhood has a train station with dragons and fish faces!

Constructed in 1901 by the Reading Railroad, Wayne Junction station offered service to New York City, Washington, and points west during its heyday and, according to SEPTA, advertised that "more trains stop here than at any other station in the world.”

The station, originally designed by Frank Furness, is eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. SEPTA coordinated the project with local historic preservation organizations. The project received the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia's 2015 Grand Jury Award.

Grateful this did not go the way of the wrecking ball and neighbors worked hard with all parties to ensure its renovation not demolition. Including the past Inquirer article in our stories about the restoration project if you would like to read more.

A month has passed since Germantown’s Juneteenth festival and perhaps you saw neighbor Bernard M. Jordan Lambert (pictured here) and others walking the street in Civil War uniform.

He and others are part of the 3rd Regiment United States Colored Troops Reenactors who represent the first regiment to graduate from Camp William Penn, which was located on Cheltenham, Pa in 1863-1865.

Lambert also has family ties to Company B 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment.

The group is interested in cultivating and collaborating in events to provide culture and diversity, teaching living history to communities via lectures, programs, exhibits, and reenactments.

While Juneteenth is one of the busiest times of year for the group, they are available year round for bookings and engagements.

A great page exists with lots of information and contacts entitled, “3rd Regiment United States Colored Troops Reenactors”. We will include the link in our stories.

Many thanks to Lambert for posing for this portrait and continuing to educate the community and honor these men!

Germantown! This weekend is calling for April showers, so keeping that in mind we have a quartet of suggestions that are all inside and not at all affected by weather.

Tonight kick off the weekend at the launch party for the Germantown Arts District . Some great press is circulating about GAD, a newly created cultural and neighborhood initiative that plans to highlight and share Germantown’s diverse culture and community with all of Philadelphia. GAD will hold a series of monthly celebrations in the heart of Germantown on the Fourth Friday of every month in addition to a festival coming in the Fall. Curious? Go tonight to celebrate and learn more. But first, head over to their page, start following them, and add yourself to their mailing list.

Feel free to also stop by tonight for the “creative kick back and art show”, featuring work from an array of artists as well as live music. They go in depth on their own page with extensive artist features that are worth checking out!

Saturday is Independent Bookstore day and Uncle Bobbie’s is running a sweet sale. Pick up a read for this rainy stretch of days and get a second book for 30% off.

Sunday go to for a concert by & the Latin Tinge. Enjoy the lovely architectural interior of the church as an added bonus.

And as always please share any additional information about things going on in the comments!
