After a great summer season, we are ready for the ice! Conditions are improving with 4”-5” off the west shore of LVD and similar conditions in Thunder Bay. Remember, it’s early and imperative you check ice conditions before you venture out. Reports of panfish being caught with the occasional pike and walleye on tip ups. Stop in and say hi to Val if you are driving by the minnow bucket most mornings from 8-9am. Good luck and be safe!

Fishing on LVD las been good for the first half of summer. Anglers reporting a lot of undersized walleye and some jumbo perch being caught. Try for walleye and perch off the south shore in 15’ to 22’ fow with leeches. Bluegill fishing continues to be lights out with anglers reporting limits of gills in less than an hour. If you haven’t made your way to LVD yet this summer, be sure to book your trip and stop in and say hi to Val!

Open water season is off to a hot start. Anglers report they are catching pike on chubs and fatheads using slip bobbers. Jig and minnow or gulp tail have been effective as well. Perch are being caught on LVD’s w**d edges in about 10 to 12 fow. The minnow bucket has some new shirts available so be sure to stop in and grab one before they are all gone!

Although we are looking forward to spring fishing, it can be hard to give up the hard water when you catch slabs like this! Popular area master angler Doug pictured with his 14 1/2” crappie caught on a tungsten and waxies on local lake.

Winter has been fantastic in the northwoods. A fresh dump of powder has snowmobiles out on the trails and the blue skies and sunshine is a welcome sight for ice fishermen, snowmobilers and just about everyone else north of Highway 8! With spring right around the corner, it is time to start planning your spring and summer trips! Opening day of fishing season in Wisconsin is just 69 days away so don’t wait too long to plan your weekend. Val is excited to catch up with all of you and see everyone back at the shop!

Well, fall is here and the fish are in their fall patterns. Anglers are reporting good catches of perch and crappie with fatheads being choice bait for perch and crappies preferring crappie minnows and tube jigs. The last few days have been beautiful and the wind has finally laid down after some gusty days earlier this month. We are well stocked with suckers and ready for all you musky fishermen! Be sure to stop in and see Val and get a cup of coffee and some wisdom!

Fishing has been productive if you know where to look. So far this season, bluegill and crappie populations have been off the charts. We have only seen this trend continue into September with a lot of fish holding tight to the bottom. Crappie minnows a foot off the bottom have proved most productive for crappie with bluegills favoring a half of leech. Some larger perch and small walleye have also been caught the last few weeks. If you need bait, hot spots or a chat, stop in and talk to Val!

We are half way through August and water clarity is poor. Fishing has been slow but some anglers have been managing to catch limits of panfish. Leeches have proved best the last few weeks. Cooler weather and periodic storms have made for interesting fishing conditions. Hopefully we will soon get a solid week of consistent weather and the bite picks up. Stop in for bait, tackle or just to say hi to Val!

We hope everyone is doing well and have been enjoying the first half of their summer! LVD has been producing bluegills and perch quite consistently. Water temps have been about 72-72 degrees. Leeches have worked best and much of the action has been happening right in the w**d beds. Largemouth fishing has been decent lately as well. Use spinner baits to stay above the w**ds and work the edges of the reeds. Some anglers have reported decent action on walleye trolling the w**d edges with husky jerk or shad raps while others have done well on bobber and minnow on the rock humps in the middle of the lake. If you haven't had a chance to get out yet, you definitely have time to wet a line and fill a limit before this bite cools off! Be sure to stop in and get your bait and say hi to Val!

Fishing on LVD has been decent. Lots of Largemouth being caught as well as gills, sunfish and perch. Look for perch out in 8' to 10' right in the middle of the w**ds. Nightcrawler on a hook with a split shot has worked well. Bluegills and sunfish have been shallower in 4' to 5' of water along the West Shore south of sunrise and back in Indian bay. With the w**ds coming up, try using a w**dless spinner to get to the bass. One person specifically reported over 25 Largemouth in an hour and a half using the w**dless spinner up in the thick w**ds and lily pads in Rice and Indian bay. Tight lines and stay safe out there!

Sorry to everyone for not posting the last few weeks! Fishing has been great for bass and bluegill on LVD. Water temperatures are hovering in the upper 60's. Anglers have been having luck in the reeds for largemouth using night crawlers and tandem spinners. Bluegills being caught on slip bobbers. We hope to see everyone stop in and get the scoop on the fishing from owner/ operator Val! If you're feeling lucky, stop in for a shake of the day!

Bluegill fishing has been fantastic lately. Worms and leaches on slip bobbers have proved effective. Gills have been in the shallows of the North and West shore. Anglers should try south of the West Shore landing as well as the reeds along the North shore. Walleye fishing has proved consistent. Many sub legal walleyes being caught while fishing for perch along the w**d edges. Sorting through some of the little ones has provided anglers limits of walleyes with most fish running around 17" with some over 20". Hope to see all of you stop in this weekend! Tight lines!
