Falcon Kayak Sailor Bobby Johnson aka JustKeepPaddling takes first place in the 300 Mile Everglades Challenge Adventure Race. He was the first Class 1 finisher on Tuesday March 10th.
Bobby used a 1.1 square meter Falcon Sail, which was designed specifically for this adventure race. Bobby is simply one of the best & strongest paddlers you will ever meet. He would have done well without his Falcon Sail, but having top top-tier athletes like Bobby choose to use Falcon Sails, is a clear source of pride.
He finished the 300 mile course in 3 days 8 hours 53 minutes. That is roughly 81 hours including rest, check ins, eating, setting up & tearing down camp, navigating, correcting mistakes, having fun, and dealing with everything that happens along the way on a unsupported adventure race.
He averaged 88 miles per 24 hours. That includes rest, check ins, eating, setting up & tearing down camp, navigating, correcting mistakes, having fun, and dealing with everything that happens along the way on a unsupported adventure race. 88 miles in one day, is amazing but to keep that pace for over 3 days is hard to believe. No matter how you cut it, this is one majorly impressive feat even with the best kayak sail on the planet. Falcon Sails is very happy to be a small part of another impressive feat.
Thank you Bobby Johnson for taking us along for the ride.
There is more to the story,
Just getting to the starting line of this race is a major challenge. Finishing at all is a major accomplishment, finishing days ahead of the final cut off is impressive. Another Everglades Challenge Competitor Casey Woods aka SaltyMoose took a first place finish in Class 3 way ahead of the cut off with a time of 5 days 7 hours 41 minutes. That is totally impressive. A picture of his twin masted Falcon Sail rig is included below. He was in a Kruger Dream Catcher.
Both experts and beginners are looking for the same thing. They want a light weight compact rig that is easy to use, that is reliable & provides amazing performance on all angles of attack.
