It is with heavy hearts we have to remove the children’s and young adults section from the truck. I am unable to deal with the amount of confrontation that it brings by having two different spaces co-existing on the truck: children’s & adult.
I’m hoping to relieve at least a little of the confrontation by saying up front we are not a space for children so we might have less of these interactions with shocked parents. I don’t want to double down and say ALL parents should be okay with allowing their child a glance at what we sell (it’s mostly just the word itself “q***r” that causes the homophobic comments). We do not sell pornographic material. We certainly have never carried books for children that explain adult themes. We have only carried books about race and feminism for children as those are topics being widely discussed in our community. But we never sold them to “indoctrinate” anyone’s children, we only put them on the shelf for parents as a resource to explain these heavy topics to their little ones.
With all that said, I hope the parents who were regulars understand. I am so sad to not have a place for my little readers anymore. But for my sanity, the sections have been removed.

We do not ever make a statement about the confrontations we deal with. So please understand it has become extreme for us to publicly express these concerns. 😔

In making this decision we are thinking about how we maintain a safe space for our regular q***r customers.

I am so nervous to post this. But I’m hoping at least a few will understand.

Thursday is technically the last day of April, National Poetry Month. But we’ve saved the celebration for Saturday.

Whether you completed a couple prompts or the whole thing we’d love for you to join us in celebrating everyone’s hard work and creative spirit. 🥂

What to expect:
-an open mic to share your work & talk about your creative process/journey
-a rosette ribbon making station (participation trophies!!)
-a celebration cake to share (gluten free)
-community and fun!

This is the last event in this campaign until we have a publishing party for the lucky writer who wins our contest! 🍀✨
