It may feel warm down here, but that’s not stopping the lifts. All of the resorts are holding strong bases right now with most lifts still spinning.

Skiing conditions in the North Carolina mountains as of mid-February 2026 are generally good, featuring a mix of natural snow and heavy machine-made snow, with most resorts operating near 100% capacity. Base depths are strong, ranging from 30 to over 100 inches, depending on the resort.

Appalachian Ski Mtn.: Machine-groomed with a 73–101" base, 12/12 trails open.
Beech Mountain Resort: 62–72" base, machine-groomed, wet granular surfaces, with 15 trails open.
Sugar Mountain Resort: 57-96" base, machine-groomed/packed powder, with 100% snowmaking capability.
Cataloochee Ski Area: 61–77" base, 94% of trails open.
Hatley Pointe: 42–54" base, 77% of trails open.
Sapphire Valley: 30–60" base, machine-groomed.

Current Forecast: Temperatures are relatively warm, with highs reaching into the 50s°F (up to 57°F) and potential rain in the forecast, which may affect surface conditions.
Conditions: The high base depths from recent, sustained, and highly effective snowmaking allow for good skiing despite the warmer, wet, or granular surface conditions.
