If a coat of paint could tell a story, April Munson’s would fill the whole store—and then some.”

So many “coats” have been worn—or applied—at Pecatonica Hardware over the years, but some people leave a mark that goes far beyond a single spot. April Munson has left her mark all over this store, in every corner, every project, and in the hearts of everyone she’s worked with.

Since 2014, April has shared her talent, creativity, and hard work with our store. What began with rehabbed furniture grew into something magical with the creation of The Workshoppe—a vision that truly came to life inside our store.

Over the years, the hardware store became more than a workplace. Her children grew up working alongside her, and now her grandchildren pop in and see her. April and Ted were a dynamic duo, their love and respect for each other unmatched, and when Ted needed it most, April showed up and took the challenge and kept the store running smoothly.

April will always be remembered as our PAINT QUEEN—with her great laugh, creativity, and famous rule: “No crying in the hardware store!”

The love and dedication April has poured into Pecatonica Hardware cannot be matched. She has truly been a gift to our store family and to the entire community.

Onward she may go—but she will always be part of the Pecatonica Hardware story.

As some of you know, lots of changes have been coming to Pecatonica Hardware and The Workshoppe. Three months ago, we said goodbye to our locally famous, Mary & Kathleen with their fun and a little extra crazy videos. They have officially retired, but Lord knows, they haven’t slowed down!
Two months ago, our hearts broke as we lost our owner, business partner and friend, Ted Kramer. One month ago we welcomed brand new owners, Jerry and Kelly into the hardware family. They’ve jumped in, holding nothing back, to give our beloved hardware store a fresh new life while still holding on to everything you know Pecatonica Hardware to be.
And then today… today marks my final days at Pecatonica Hardware/The Workshoppe.
Looking back to my time here, I stand in awe! I never could have imagined what I’d learn, how I’d grow and what opportunities this job would give me. I have LOVED it!! I have absolutely loved serving this community!!
To our customers, I have loved getting to know you. Honored to have helped. Thank you for trusting me with your questions, your stories, your ideas.
To the vendors in The Workshoppe, thank you for letting me come up along side you in your small business. We sure did start something great!!
To the staff (past and present), I could never have asked for a better group of people to work alongside. You truly are family to me!
At the risk of breaking my rule of “no crying at the hardware store” AGAIN, I’ll sign off.
Thank you Pecatonica! I am a better person because of you!!
~April Munson ❤️
