A long time ago I played around trying to write poems. This is one that I came up with.
This is a story about Obie
Who lived on a Christmas tree farm
Where the farmer was watchful
And kept him safe from harm
He was planted in the ground
When he was very small
And all the trees around him
We're also not too tall
When the farmer did his planting
He sang as he dug in the dirt
He knew the song wouldn't help them grow
And he knew that it couldn't hurt
Oh my little Christmas tree
I'll watch you as you grow
I'll take care of you as best I can
Till it's time for you to go
The farmer gave them water
The farmer gave them food
He even gave them special names
He called little Obie " Dude"
One cold December morning
With snow falling from the sky
Obie saw a brand new sight
And he let out a little sigh
People were looking at the farmer's big trees
Trying to find one just the right size
Up on top of the car it would go
And the family would take home it's prize
It must be getting close to Christmas
There are so many people here
Oh Mr. Farmer
Do people come back here each year
Well you see it's like this
Said the farmer to the tree
People want a tree for Christmas
And they always come here to me
They've been coming here for years
My trees grow big and strong
When people buy a tree from me
They know they can't go wrong
When the farmer finished speaking
Obie heard a musical sound
It was the sound of the big trees singing
And the song could be heard all around
I've got a home for Christmas
I wonder where it would be
I've got a home for Christmas
I'm so glad that they picked me
Obie couldn't wait to grow up
And to ride on top of a car
He wondered where his home would be
He hoped he got to ride far
Well the years passed by
Obie and his friends grew tall
The farmer got older
But still cared for them all
Christmas has come again
And just as in the past
People came to get a tree
Obie hoped that he'd go fast
The farmer had told them
This was their year
They were for sale
Their moment was here
As people entered the field
Music filled the air
It was cold and a little bit snowy
But no one seemed to care
The trees looked so beautiful
It was very tough to decide
Families would pick out their own special tree
Then take it for a ride
Trees were busy leaving
And singing all the day long
But Obie didn't sell
He didn't sing along
People looked at him
And said what a beautiful tree
But when a tree was finally picked out
Nobody picked out Obie
Obie wanted to be covered in lights
Have a star and garland and such
He wanted to say hi to Santa
Was that asking to much
Why he wasn't in his new home
Obie didn't have a reason
Time was running out
The farm was closing for the season
The farmer felt sorry for Obie
Tomorrow would be Christmas Day
How to make him feel better
There had to be a way
Looks like it's you and me Dude
On this Christmas Eve night
I'll get some decorations
Then I'll do you up right
The farmer got his box of lights
And as he was walking out the door
A car was coming up the drive
It contained a family of four
We have a Christmas tradition
Of going to a tree farm that's near
To look for a tree that nobody wants
Do you happen to have any here
Follow me out to the field
And I'll tell you why
I've got this wonderful tree
That nobody wanted to buy
To be a Christmas tree that's homeless
Is a fate it doesn't deserve
Nobody wants this tree right here
Cuz it's trunk has a bit of a curve
Obie was full of excitement
He was now a real Christmas tree
The family was doubly excited
The farmer gave them Obie for free
The family headed for home
With Obie riding along
As the farmer was waving goodbye
He heard a different song
Merry Christmas Mr Farmer
Thanks for taking good care of me
No need to worry about me any more
I'm now with my new family
