My most recent extension is off for its European tour. I have developed a technique that allows me to route the string through the extension using only one wheel. The extension itself is ebony with delrin latches and aluminum hardware. It is perfectly fit to the scroll and held in place with only string tension and a single pin in the end of the fingerboard. Drilling scrolls and screwing extensions on is archaic and something we need to stop doing.

My first example of this technique can be seen in the February 2021 Strad article on the 1850 George Craske I helped restore.
