Hey friends! 👋🏻 long time no see!! But Happy 30th Diaversary to me!! 🎉🎂🎈
April 9th, which fell on Easter this year (it was Good Friday in 1993), marked the time below as time spent living with Type 1 Diabetes and it affecting every decision, and almost every moment of my life from that point on:
0.3 of a Century
3 Decades
30 years
360 months
1564.287 Weeks
10,950 Days
262,800 Hours
15,768,000 Minutes
946,200,000 Seconds
Those numbers look daunting at first 🫠 but let me tell you what I also see. That T1 Diabetes is no longer a relatively immediate death sentence (for many, but not all - we still have a lot of work to do ). That with advancements today, and access to them, that you can thrive! Because I also see these numbers:
35 [mostly] happy trips around the sun ☀️
1 loving marriage 🧔🏻
2 beautiful babies 👦🏼👧🏼
2 incredibly supportive parents who never let me believe that this disease was a limitation 👵🏼🧓🏼
♾️ Countless friends I’ve made along the way
1 amazing community of people who always get me ☝🏻
Honestly, so grateful and happy to be here! Here’s to another 30! 🍾
I had really hoped to be back in full swing with the site and the candy by the time this day rolled around, but honestly, life has been throwing me for a such a huge loop that it hasn’t been priority for me. I promise once things settle, I’ll be back at it! 🤞🏻🙏🏻💙
In the meantime, I’m opening up a fundraiser of $100 for every decade I’ve lived with this disease ($300 total) to go towards T1International in their continued efforts to assure that these lengths of life with this disease, AT A MINIMUM (!!), are achieved by all by making sure they have access to insulin and resources to better manage it. Please consider donating 🙏🏻
